MODERN SNARE DRUM COMPETITION

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra proudly announces its’
3rd annual Modern Snare Drum Competition.

The competition will take place in Atlanta, Georgia at the Woodruff Arts Center June 11 - 13, 2010.

The competition will be separated into two divisions:
Division I: ages 25 years old and under
Division II: ages 18 years old and under
Division I will consist of a Preliminary, Semi-Final, and Final round.
Division II will consist of a Preliminary and Final round.

The competition jury will include the following members:
Tom Sherwood (Principal Percussion, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra)
John H. Beck (Eastman School of Music; Timpanist, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, retired)
Marc Damoulakis (Section Percussion, Cleveland Orchestra; DePaul University)
Charles Settle (Section Percussion, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra)
She-e Wu (Northwestern University)
Guest Clinician: Bob Becker (NEXUS)

There will be a $60 (non-refundable) application fee.

Application deadline is June 1, 2010. The competition will be limited to 70 applicants. Acceptance to the competition will be based on the order of the applications received.

Candidates will be responsible for their own travel and housing expenses. Information will be provided for nearby hotels offering Atlanta Symphony Orchestra discount rates.
Special Event:
Bob Becker will present a masterclass on his new book “Rudimental Arithmetic” – free to all applicants - on the evening of June 12, 2010.
