Azerbaijani officers to participate in working meeting of NATO



Azerbaijani officers will take part in a working meeting on coordination of military cooperation with NATO in 2014, which will take place in Belgrade, Serbia between March 31 and April 4.

The event will be held in accordance with the Individual Partnership Action Plans (IPAP) with NATO.

ADA UNIVERSITY HOSTS AFGHAN SENIOR OFFICIALS WORKSHOP ON THE CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT OF THE ARMED FORCES
On March 3, Workshop on civil control over Afghanistan armed forces was held at ADA University in Baku.
Rector of ADA University, Ambassador Hafiz Pashayev opened the event and welcomed guests and participants. Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ambassador Araz Azimov also welcomed guests and made a speech on importance of this workshop. He said Afghanistan had obtained an opportunity to establish a state free of religious ideology based on democratic principles. Noting several specific factors, he touched upon the reintegration of Taliban fighters into the society.

The overall objective of this workshop is to lay the foundation for long-term NATO cooperation with Afghanistan through the exchange of dialogue and ideas on topics in the realm of civilian and parliamentary oversight of armed forces. The focus of the event will be directed at establishing a base-line level of understanding of the fundamental principles that surround the use of armed forces in internal and external situations, and the politics surrounding their deployment. The intention here is to present and discuss the principles and the control mechanisms that would enable the civil powers to monitor and control the armed forces as they conduct operations, and placing those principles in an Afghan context. Workshop consists of 12 modules and will last till March 7. On the last day of Workshop participants will have a city tour to Baku.
