"Biography | Bear Grylls." Bear Grylls. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Mar. 2016.
When Bear Grylls was fresh out of high school, he joined the British Special Forces. It was here he had learned many of the skills we all see him use and love him for. A few years later, while parachuting in Africa, he suffered from an unfortunate accident. His parachute tore and he fell from 16,000ft onto his back, breaking it in three places. After he spent a year in military rehabilitation, he climbed Mount Everest. After almost being paralyzed, Bear went on to make many amazing accomplishments such as publishing 15 books, starring in the most viewed survival show of all time, and even becoming a Colonel in the Royal Marine Commandos.
I believe this source was very useful. It was not biased and it was very reliable. In fact, it was the official Bear Grylls website. The point of this source was to summarize Bear Grylls biggest features and struggles on his way to the idol he is today.
This source was helpful to me because it shows that physical disabilities cannot keep you from success if you work hard enough for it. Bear despite close paralysis, reached for the stars and became one himself. He only came his hardships and flourished very successfully. His story is inspirational for those over coming physical obstacles.
"Walt Disney Biography." Bio.com. Ed. Bio.com. A&E Networks Television, 16 Mar. 2016. Web. 16 Mar. 2016.
Cartoonist, producer, and entrepreneur, Walt Disney faced failure before forever impacting the world as the owner of one of the most recognized businesses of all time. When Walt was sixteen, he dropped out of high school and tried to join the army, but was rejected for being under age. Then, Walt started making cartoons for newspaper ads in which he was fired not long after for, "lacking imagination and having no good ideas." From there, Disney made a deal with a local Kansas theatre to screen his cartoons called Laugh-O-Grams. They were a huge success and he actually gained enough money to get his own studio. Unfortunately though, not long after he had to file bankruptcy due to debt. Walt and his brother Roy pooled their money together and settled out in Hollywood where they started the Disney Brother's Studios, the business that would forever make Walt famous. He then released many record breaking films and won hordes of Oscar's for his phenomenal cartoons.
This source again remained not biased, yet a very useful piece. Disney's story of rising up out of the ashes of failure multiple times to become a world icon is very inspiring. This story contrasts to the last one for the fact Bear overcame a physical condition in comparison to Walt's rejection and repeating failure.
Walt's climb to the top is helpful to me in the sense of inspiration to not give up on my dreams. Even though he was shut down many times, his persistence made him a success. This drives me to work harder on my dreams of being a musician. Failure is inevitable without determination.
Bass, Matthew. "Jim Carrey Success Story – From Struggling Dyslexic to Comedy Movie Mogul." N.p., n.d. Web.
Famous comedian and actor, Jim Carrey faced a difficult childhood before making it onto the red carpet in Hollywood. Jim Carrey suffered from dyslexia, which made it very difficult for him to learn things easily in school. His grades suffered, learning was always a challenge, and he had very few friends and relationships to rely on. He dropped out at a young age, living in poverty and working eight hours shifts as a factory janitor. A year later, he quit and started making money by doing standup comedy. He opened up for some very successful comics. Years later, he started acting as a D class actor, doing small television movie films and miniscule sitcom roles. It was until 1994 when his role in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective made him a multimillionaire and a recognizable actor. He then followed to star in many other block buster films such as The Mask and Liar Liar.
The source for this information is reliable and unbiased as the last following in the case it just simply tells Jim Carrey's story and struggles as they were, with other reliable sources cited for credit too. This article contrasts to the others because it focuses on the struggles of poverty and mental illness, while on the other hand, Bear had to overcome a physical injury, and Walt had to overcome repeated failure of attempted dreams. This article brings inspiration to those who suffer from dyslexia, or poor living conditions.
Jim Carrey's story brings hope to me that there is more waiting for me outside of highschool. When Jim was in school, he struggled both academically and socially, but he became extremely successful and well known. It shows how much a high school status really means once you leave the youthful atmosphere.
