BT Ignite wins tScheme Grants of Approval for two electronic trust services
BT today confirmed that BT Ignite, its business services and solutions division, has been granted tScheme approval for two separate services, following the successful conclusion of its assessment programme for which it was previously granted tScheme Registered Applicant status.
In addition, the company has attained BS7799 accreditation, the most widely recognised security standard in the world, for the delivery of its Trust Services hosted in its flagship Internet Data Centre in Cardiff.
BT Ignite has attained tScheme approval for both its Server Certificate and Onsite services, demonstrating that BT Ignite’s Trust Services portfolio has been assessed against, and operates to, the highest industry standards. Consequently, users can be confident that these services are provided in accordance with the most stringent guidelines. The approvals make the company one of only three in the UK to achieve this endorsement.
BS7799 is the benchmark standard for Information Security Management and provides a framework for an organisation to evaluate risk and implement the appropriate level of control for all areas of security management. Achieving BS7799 accreditation proves that BT Ignite can manage security at its Internet Data Centres to an internationally recognised standard and is a strong endorsement of its overall capability in the field of security.
Sally Davis, president of Portfolio Strategy and Applications Hosting, BT Ignite, said: “Building trust between customers and suppliers is fundamental to conducting successful business. tScheme approval and BS7799 accreditation will help our customers increase their business effectiveness by demonstrating to their staff, customers and partners that the services they are using are secure and can be used with confidence. In addition, as our Trust Services portfolio is offered as a managed service, BT Ignite can help remove the complexity of implementing these security solutions that can be otherwise involved.”

Stephen Upton, Chief Executive of tScheme, said: “tScheme’s approval process quite appropriately requires significant focus of effort and resources in attaining the service standard required. We are delighted that BT Ignite has achieved tScheme approval for two of its services, adding to its long list of credentials. This is another significant endorsement of the value of the industry self-regulatory approach which tScheme represents. It is an important indicator of tScheme’s value in the electronic trust services industry, and forms a significant milestone in the continuing development of this key initiative.”
