International Human Trafficking Institute Announces Teach-In
“How to Plan, Strategize and Ignite College Students for Activism”
When: July 22-23, 2016
Where: The Center for Civil and Human Rights
100 Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard, Atlanta, GA 30313
Background: There is a resurgence of student activism on campuses across the country.
The International Human Trafficking Institute (IHTI) invites students and youth activists to Atlanta, the think tank of the American Civil Rights Movement, for a Summer Teach-In, on how to plan, strategize, and ignite an activist movement on campus.
IHTI will host a two-day session at The Center for Civil and Human Rights designed for students who wish to organize their peers for social change engagement. While our focus is student engagement to end human trafficking, these strategies and principles may be applied toward addressing any social injustice.
Sessions will include activities including, but not limited to:
-
Meeting directly with former and current student movement leaders from the 1960s forward, who have led effective social change efforts.
-
Using human trafficking as a case study, what are the aspects of modern day slavery where students may advocate for real change on their campuses and in their communities?
-
Studying the five steps of social change and creating activities to advance them.
-
Understanding how to build a campaign that creates demands with tangible results.
-
Planning your campaign, in collaboration with others, and creating a community where you may check-in to evaluate your efforts, and plan next steps.
Cost: The program fee of $100 covers meals, materials, and two nights housing. A limited amount of partial scholarships are available. To find out more about obtaining a potential scholarship, please email IHTI@civilandhumanrights.org. Transportation to and from Atlanta are not included in this cost.
