CLTC is BBYO’s dynamic training experience for AZA and BBG Chapter leaders. At CLTC, teens grow personally, explore their Jewish identity and learn specific skills to help them strengthen their Chapter at home.  This is accomplished through a hands-on, interactive and experiential approach. The participants are divided into mock AZA and BBG Chapters where teamwork and community must be established to successfully accomplish the various tasks that are assigned during the session.  CLTC does not end the day the session is over. The friendships that are created at CLTC are monumental. Participants use these friendships during the year to network on programming, elections, speeches, fundraising and other activities. In addition, CLTC participants receive monthly emails with additional information on topics that were covered during the summer.

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens informs the leadership experience and inspires teens to develop good work habits, to teach them how to work with their peers in a positive environment, to help them recognize their strengths, and to set standards for themselves now and in their future years as adults.

Participants delve into:

  • Starting a New Chapter: Chapter standards, working with advisors, and fundraising.

  • BBYO Vision: Cardinal Principles, Menorah Pledge, AZA & BBG History and songs

  • Election Procedures: Officer responsibilities, voting procedures, chairpeople and committees

  • Meeting Procedures: planning an agenda and running a successful meeting

  • Programming: AZA and BBG folds, brainstorming, step-by-step program planning, calendaring, program bank and program evaluation.

  • Communication: verbal, non-verbal, listening, communicating with Chapter members, phone calls, social media and networking

  • Membership: Where to find members, recruitment, making members feel welcome, new member training, steps for retention

  • “How To” Sessions: parliamentary procedure, problem-solving, BBYO policies,  public speaking, b-linked and youth dashboard training, and best practices

No visitors are allowed during CLTC sessions. BBYO members who are not registered at CLTC cannot visit. Participants are not allowed to leave CLTC during the two weeks.

Health Care at CLTC
For the safety of the participants, no medications are permitted in the sleeping rooms. Participants are allowed to keep their inhalers with them.
In the event it becomes necessary to seek the service of an outside doctor or hospital, parents will be notified immediately. However, parents are required to sign a medical release form so that emergency treatment can be rendered when parents are unable to be reached. Cost of medical services by camp personnel are covered by registration fees. Service provided outside of camp will be charged to the participant’s family medical plan. BBYO carries a $50 deductible limited accident insurance policy for each participant (which is in addition to, not a substitute for the family medical insurance.)
It is important that all medical information is included on the medical forms. Participants should continue their medications at CLTC. This program is highly structured and in a classroom setting much of the time. In the past, participants who were on medications for ADD during the school year experienced difficulties with the structured CLTC program when they did not take their medications at CLTC.

Policy Statement on

Drugs, Alcohol, and Other Controlled Substances

At BBYO Summer Leadership Programs
1. To participate fully in the demanding activities of a summer leadership program, it is essential that all participants be able to devote their full attention to the program. It is clear that alcoholic beverages, marijuana, and other such substances interfere with the ability of the individuals to function in such activities.
2. Because of this, as well as the severe federal and state penalties for possession and use of any kind of non-medical or non-prescription drug or other illegal or controlled substance – it is the firm policy of the BBYO Summer Leadership Programs that the possession or use of such materials cannot be tolerated.
3. Therefore, all those accepted as participants in any of our Summer Programs must understand that any infraction in possession or use of such drugs or controlled substances may result in expulsion from the program. In such cases, transportation home will be at the participant’s own expense. No refunds will be issued. Also, it must be clear that if there is involvement of law enforcement agencies, BBYO will not be in a position to intervene or to protect in any way, those who violate this policy.
4. Also, it is important for BBYO members to know that use of drugs can mean suspension or expulsion from the organization in their home chapter as well, under the authority of the International Director.
5. BBYO policy similarly forbids possession, use, or consumption of any alcoholic beverages at BBYO programs.
6. Smoking is against BBYO policy. Use or possession of any tobacco products will not be tolerated.

These policies are to provide clear guidelines and to inform both participants and parents of the policies governing these events. The staff at summer programs will inspect all personal property, if deemed necessary.

When you sign the participant contract that is required of all applicants, you’re saying that you’ve read through this manual thoroughly , that you’re prepared for the demands and the challenges, and also that you understand and accept all BBYO policies such as those regarding drugs, alcohol and tobacco products. CLTC Behavioral Guidelines

When a large group of people are together at any activity, rules and regulations are essential. Most members see them as applications of common sense. We hope you will have an enjoyable and worthwhile time, by following these simple guidelines:

1. Any conduct unbefitting an Aleph or BBG will cause him/her to be discharged from CLTC without a refund and is liable to suspension from the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization. Inappropriate behavior, clothing, and language will not be tolerated. This includes: fighting, gambling, fireworks, damage to property, writing/defacing camp property/furniture, no stealing of private/public property. Any damage to BBYO property, camp property, and or private property is at the expense of the individual(s) responsible.
2. No BBG or AZA will be allowed to leave the CLTC campus at any time. Attendance at all meals, programs, services and workshops is mandatory.
3. Curfew means participants must be in their assigned rooms, lights out, and ready for bed.

YOU MAY NOT LEAVE YOUR DORM BETWEEN LIGHTS OUT AND WAKE UP.
4. Cell phones and IPod’s are not to be used during CLTC programs or meals. Misuse will result in removal of items until the end of the CLTC session.
5. If an AZA “sneaks” to a BBG dorm room, the BBG must not allow them to enter; should ask them to leave immediately; or get an adult staff person immediately. Failure to act on this will result in the AZA(s)’ and BBG(s)’ suspension from CLTC. The same applies to a BBG who “sneaks” to an AZA dorm room.
