Award-winning Arts program for homeless students

Directed and taught music, art, theater, and film to a challenging urban population of at-risk youths from the shelter population. Implemented engaging yearlong curriculum in visual and performing arts catered to the unique needs of the inner city youth. Managed crises and behavioral issues unique to this population. In the 2007-2008 academic year directed entire program, implementing an engaging and challenging curriculum, working as a liaison between the Broward County School Board, case managers, parents, and museum director of the Young at Art Children’s Museum.

UNIVERSITY COURSE EXPERIENCE
MUS 313 Introduction to Music Synthesis

This course emphasizes a study of the concepts and selected applications of computer music in a digital music studio. Course content includes computer techniques, music sequencing, sound design, sound sampling, and the use of MIDI. One or more original compositions using the technology will be performed during the semester. (NOTE: Section 2 mastered Intermediate techniques in the studio, then advanced to Directed Study).


Introduction to MIDI Technology (Undergraduate/Graduate/FIU)

Students learn music notation, sequencing, basic web use and design. Programs such as Finale and a basic Digital Audio Workstation are taught to cover basic music technology skills. Basic MIDI concepts are covered.


Directed Study (Advanced Sound Synthesis, Film Music, Multimedia Composition/MSU)

Independent work in areas of sound synthesis, music production, recording, film music, and composition designed to meet the needs and interests of individual students.


HUM 186 Media Influences on American Culture (online)

The course provides an introduction to the most prominent forms of media the influence and impact social, business, political, and popular culture in contemporary America. It explores the unique aspects of each medium as well as interactions across various media that combine to create rich environments for information sharing, entertainment, business, and social interaction in the United States and around the world.


MUS 173 Music Theory II

A continuation of MUS 170 emphasizing inversions of triads, the dominant-seventh chord, non-harmonic tones, and elementary modulations through part-writing, composition, and analysis with and without figured bass.


MUS 273 Music Theory IV

A continuation of MUS 270, emphasizing the Neapolitan and augmented-sixth chords, complex modulations, and key schemes, extreme chromaticism, and an introduction to 20th century composition and analysis.


MUS 105 Introduction to Music History

Understanding and appreciation of music for the beginner. Designed to acquaint the student with the place music holds in heritage through studying and listening to great musical works; to acquaint the student with composers and the influence of history on their compositions; and to create the ability to understand and enjoy music in the world around us.


ARTS 340 Exploration in Western Classical Music (online)

This course will introduce students to Western European music from the Baroque period through the beginning of the 20th century. The course will emphasize the history, musical development, and accomplishments of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and early 20th century periods in music, Students will learn to recognized form, style, texture, and characteristics of each period by studying a variety of composers and the representative masterpieces of each period.
