CONSTITUTION OF THE

ADVENTIST INTERCOLLEGIATE ASSOCIATION
Article I ‑ Structure
Section 1.Name. The name of this organization is the ADVENTIST INTERCOLLEGIATE ASSOCIATION, hereinafter referred to as the AIA.
Section 2. Mission. The mission of the AIA is to be the voice of the students from it member schools, and to equip Christian student leaders with the ideas and tools for effective leadership while fostering unity.
Section 3. Purpose

A. This organization shall represent the thought and opinion of its members to the Association of Adventist Colleges and Universities (AACU), to the North American Division (NAD), and to any other pertinent organization.

B. It shall also assist student governments in becoming more effective, beneficial, and responsive to the needs of their respective students by facilitating and sharing ideas which relate to the student government programs and projects.

C. It shall open, promote, and coordinate channels of communication and cooperation among student governments of Adventist colleges and universities.


Section 4. Membership. Membership shall be held in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Bylaws, Article I, Section 1.
Section 5. Authority.

A. Legal. The supreme legal and binding authority for this organization shall be this Constitution and, as delegated explicitly by it, its Bylaws, Finance Manual, Election Manual and associated Manuals.

B. Executive. The supreme executive authority for this organization shall be the General Assembly. When the General Assembly is not in session, the Executive Committee is empowered to act for the AIA, within the limitation imposed by this Constitution and its associated documents.
Section 4. Annual Convention. The annual convention shall be held in accordance to the guidelines outlined in the Bylaws, Article 4, and Section 4.

Article II ‑ Officers
Section 1. Enumeration. The executive officers shall be:

President

Executive Vice President

Financial Vice‑President

Religious Vice‑President

Social Vice‑President

Publications Vice‑President

Public Relations Vice‑President


Section 2. Appointed Officers. The Executive Secretary, Parliamentarian, Webmaster and other needed positions are selected by the AIA President and ratified by the Executive Committee prior to the yearly convention. They shall be non‑voting members of the Executive Committee.
Section 3. Eligibility. The officers of the organization shall be enrolled for a minimum of six (6) credit hours per term at a Seventh‑day Adventist institution of higher education. The President shall have served or presently be serving as student leaders. Furthermore, the President shall be a member of the Seventh‑day Adventist Church.
Section 4. Duties. The duties of the officers are as defined in the Bylaws, Article II, and Section 1.
Section 5. Executive Committee. The Executive Committee shall be comprised of the executive officers and shall be chaired by the AIA President. Its powers shall be to:

A. Act in behalf of the AIA in performing the routine operations and responsibilities designated by the General Assembly at the Annual Convention.

B. Have the authority to initiate and direct additional programs which are in harmony with AIA objectives.
Article III ‑ Advisors
Section 1. Enumeration

Article IV ‑ Publications
Section 1. Exchange. The official AIA newsletter shall be called the Exchange.
Section 2. Purpose. The Exchange shall serve as a means to share student government programming and issues, AIA business and matters of interest to students among AIA member institutions.

Article V ‑ Elections
Section 1. Elections. Elections shall be held in accordance with the procedures defined in the AIA Elections Manual.
Article VI ‑ Finances
Section 1. Finances. AIA Financial Management and dues shall be governed by guidelines assessed in the Finance Manual guidelines, found in the Finance Manual for AIA.
Article VII ‑ Parliamentary Authority
Section 1. Parliamentary Authority. Robert's Rules of Order, Revised, shall govern AIA parliamentary procedures.
Article VIII - Constitutional Changes
Section 1. Constitutional changes.

A. Changes to the Constitution shall be done by a three-quarters (3/4) vote of the delegates in the General Assembly.

B. Changes to the Bylaws and associated manuals shall be done by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the delegates in the General Assembly.

C. The Bylaws committee may approve non‑substantive changes to the Constitution, Bylaws and associated manuals, by simple majority vote.



D. All changes to the Constitution shall originate from the Bylaws Committee.
