CONSTITUTION of
the ASSOCIATION FOR COMPUTING MACHINERY
Student Chapter at Bowling Green State University
Preamble
The Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter at BGSU provides an organization for a community of students focused on the advancement of computing as a profession and a science and provides the resources to its members in order to achieve those goals.
Article I. Name of the Organization
Section 1. Name
The name of this organization shall officially be known as the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Student Chapter at Bowling Green State University (BGSU).
Article II. Affiliation with other groups
Section 1. Professional Affiliation
The Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter at BGSU is affiliated with the international professional organization, the Association for Computing Machinery.
Article III. Purpose, Aims, Functions of the Organization
Section 1. Provide a Community to Students in the Computer Sciences
A major goal of ACM Student Chapter at BGSU is to provide a community for Computer Science students and any other student interested in the field of information technology.
Section 2. Provide Resources to its Members
With the assistance of the international ACM, ACM Student Chapter at BGSU aims to provide resources to its members regarding the latest in research, knowledge and mentorship.
Section 3. Encourage collaboration between individuals within ACM and outside organizations
Provide the means for collaboration between individuals within ACM and with outside organizations, including, but not limited to, other BGSU student organizations, other college student organizations, and professional organizations within the local and global communities.
Article IV. Membership Requirements
Section 1. Interest within the organization
The only requirement for membership is the interest in ACM Student Chapter at BGSU and the interest of its betterment. Membership is open to students of BGSU without regard to sex, gender identity, genetic information, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, marital status, disability, pregnancy, military status, age, or status as a Special Disabled or Vietnam-era veteran.
Article V. Officers
Section 1. President
The President is responsible for the coordination of the organization along with any major communication with the CS Faculty and Department, Advisor and other organizations.
Section 2. Vice President
The Vice President is responsible for assisting the President in any matter.
Section 3. Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for anything that is financially related to the operations of the organization, including, but not limited to, the budget.
Section 4. Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for the documenting of all meetings and important events.
Section 5. Webmaster
The Webmaster is responsible for the creation and the maintenance of the ACM Student Chapter at BGSU’s website.
Section 6. Voting, Terms of Office and Removal of Office
All positions are elected at the end of the Spring semester of that year. The vote made by all members there, excluding the Advisor and CS Faculty. Majority vote results in winner. The term is a whole year. Removal from Office must bring a Unanimous vote from all other Officers and the Advisor.
Article VI. Faculty Advisor
Section 1. Duties and Term of Service
The Faculty Advisor is responsible for the support of ACM Student Chapter at BGSU. The term is determined by the CS Department.
Article VII. Meetings
Section 1. Officer Meetings
The time and frequency of the Officer Meetings shall be determined by the Officer Board as a whole at the beginning of the semester. All topics covered during the meetings shall be for the betterment and coordination of the organization.
Section 2. General Meetings
The time and the frequency of the General Meetings shall be determined by the Officer Board and ACM Student Chapter at BGSU members during the beginning of the semester. Contents of the meetings shall be determined by all members of ACM.
Article VIII. Financial
Section 1. Financial
Should ACM registration with the University lapse for six (6) or more consecutive months, all debts belonging to the organization will be dealt with by the selling of assets and the remainder will be responsible for the current cabinet to handle.
Article XI. Amendments
Section 1. Changes to the Constitution
All major revisions to the Constitution must be made in agreement with the entire Officers Board.
