Contact David Zuba, 609-343-5980, dzuba@njcrda.com CRDA BOARD APPROVES FUNDING FOR SPECIAL EVENTS, ATLANTIC CITY STUDENTS AND JOB TRAINING ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – (Wednesday, June 18, 2014) - The CRDA Board approved funding for ten special events that will take place this summer throughout Atlantic City through the Community Development Entertainment Event Grant program at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 17. The special events that received a total of $253,693.14 in CRDA entertainment grant funding with a total budget of $1.07 million are the 2014 Atlantic City Marathon Series; Atlantic City Airshow; 3rd Annual Atlantic City Seafood Festival; 15th Annual Jazz on the Beach Concert Series; 2nd Annual DoArtAC.com Boardwalk Art Show; 4th Annual Atlantic City Salutes America’s Armed Forces Parade; Atlantic City Ballet Performance Series; Bangladesh Mela; 2nd Annual Back to School Community Day for Kids; and the Bangladesh Festival at Bernie Robbins Stadium. “These events add exciting non-gaming fun to our summertime calendar in Atlantic City,” said CRDA Executive Director John Palmieri. “The approval of this funding allows us to continue to bring special events to Atlantic City that will draw visitors throughout the upcoming summer months. Organizations throughout the city have stepped up to bring unique experiences for visitors and residents.” Job training and preparing students for the coming school year were also supported. The CRDA approved an Inter-governmental agreement with the City of Atlantic City for $400,000 to support the Citywide Jobs Program. During the first year of the program, a gap analysis will be conducted to assess labor demand, supply and employment capacity of current industries. Employment training and placement will reflect the conclusions of the analysis. A $10,000 community development capital grant was awarded to the Coalition for a Safe Community towards the purchase of computer equipment for its “Learn to Earn: Google Chromebooks” program. Atlantic City students heading into their freshman year of high school will be trained through the summer. In other actions, the CRDA Board approved $100,000 in funding for a preliminary determination of project eligibility and feasibility study towards an International Swimming Hall of Fame.
