Frank

P.

Thursday, March 05, 1857

December 28, 1920 Source: SW Times
Frank P. ASKEW died last night about eleven o’ clock following a prolonged illness, due to complications. The announcement of his dearth came as no surprise as his condition had been critical for some weeks and at times his death momentarily expected. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon, interment to be made at two o’clock at the Dublin Cemetery by the side of his wife.
The death of Mr. ASKEW removes one who has been closely identified with this community for more than thirty years. Born in Bertie County, N.C., March 5, 1857, he removed to Dublin when a young man, accepting a clerkship with James Rigney & Son., millers. He later came to Pulaski to accept a position with Hatcher & Bell., clothiers, which form changed several times in the intervening years, as the original form of the present Hatcher, Askew & Company. At one time he was identified with his brother, J. D. Askew in the business at which time it was known as Askew Brothers. In the more recent years he was a traveling salesman, but several years ago he had to give up the road owing to failing health. Since that time every means has been taken to a restoration to health, but only temporary relief seemed possible,
He married Miss Bertie HAWKINS, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W. H. HAWKINS, then of Dublin. Three children were born to them and survive the father. Mrs. J. C. HARMAN, Donald and Billy ASKEW. Mrs. ASKEW having died December 11, 1909. There are three sisters, Mrs. A. W. ASKEW and Mrs. Starkie SHARP, both of Harrelsville, N. C., and Mrs. Dora A. WOOD of Winton, N. C., and two brothers, Postmaster J. D. ASKEW, of Pulaski, and W. O. ASKEW, of Orlando, N. C.
The deceased was a member of the Royal Areanum fraternity. He was a man of genial disposition and had his host of friends in the town of his adoption and throughout the territory in which he traveled the latter days of his life.
