Dear Professor:

The NACE International Research Committee is again sponsoring its annual Student Poster Session during NACE's Annual Conference, CORROSION/2009 Conference & Expo, March 22 – 26, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia, and would like to invite your students to participate.
There will be $3,000 in total prize money awarded to the poster session winners. Prizes are awarded in three categories - The Mars Fontana Prize for the best posters in Corrosion Engineering, the Marcel Pourbaix Prize for the best posters in Corrosion Science, and the Harvey Herro Prize for the best poster in Applied Corrosion Technology. Prize awards are $500 for first place, $300 for second place, $200 for third place in each category. In addition, the following incentives are being offered for all session participants:

  • Free one year student membership to NACE International – which includes access to Materials Performance and Corrosion Journal

  • Free CORROSION/2009 Conference & Expo conference registration with access to technical symposia, meetings, exhibits, award lectures and research topical and research in progress symposia.

  • Opportunity for financial assistance from NACE regions and sections to attend conference

  • Opportunity to apply for financial assistance from the NACE Foundation

Students (undergraduate or graduate) can present completed research, research in progress, or even planned research. The posters will be judged on content, scientific approach, potential impact on the corrosion community, novelty of approach, and presentation. Student attendance is required at the conference to participate. Please keep in mind that there can only be one student per poster. Students should acknowledge the assistance of their advisor and any fellow students under "acknowledgments."

Each student who wishes to participate must submit a 300-400 word abstract by January 5, 2009.
Included in this website you will find guidelines for poster preparation, as well as a flyer which can be posted. Additional information regarding poster format, housing arrangements, meetings, etc., will be sent to the students who are selected to participate.
Thank you in advance for your efforts and I hope to see you and several of your students in Atlanta.
Sincerely,

Dr. Nick Birbilis
