Monday
This summer at camp we will be touring all over Israel! Every day we will be learning about a city or an area in Israel and think about lessons we can learn from that city.
Discussion points:
Have you ever been to Israel?
Tell us about it….
Why is it important for Jewish people to learn about Israel?
Today is going to be all about the Golan Heights
Does anyone know what that is?
Mountains in the North of Israel
Fun Fact
Mount Hermon in the north of the Golan is about 2,800 meters tall (almost 2 miles!) and is a popular place to ski.
Life lesson
Lesson we can learn from mountain climbing.
A person should keep growing and improving
Every day we should add something better than the day before.
Share an example. Ask the campers to share examples.
Tuesday
Negev
A desert area in the south of Israel. There are many interesting kinds of animals in the Negev. Today is animal day and we are having a farm coming in the afternoon.
Fun Fact The Negev is 60% of Israel and most of it is uninhabited!
Life lesson
Lets talk about lessons we can learn from animals
Name an animal and campers to try think about a lesson
Give them an example to start off
Ants- Not to steal. They don’t take crumbs from other ants.
Deer- Be quick!
Leapord- Be brave and proud to be Jewish!
Wednesday
Tzfat
Tzfat is a city in the north of Israel that is famous for art. Today is going to be colour day and we are all dressed in colourful clothes!
Tzfat is one of the four holiest cities in Israel. Can you guess what the others are? (Yerushalayim, Chevron, Teveria)
Lots of holy people lived in Tzfat. Including the Arizal.
Fun Fact
Tzfat is the highest city in Israel
Lesson
Story: Once the Arizal was welcoming the Shabbat by singing Lecha Dodi together with his students. Suddenly he turned to his students and asked them. Do you want to spend Shabbat in Yerushalayim? The students were confused and said let us just go home quick to check with our wives. The arizal immediately became very disappointed and said ‘we just missed a chance to bring Mashiach. If you wouldn’t have hesitated we would have miraculously gone to Yerushalayim today and greeted Moshiach!
Life lesson
When you get a chance to do a Mitzvah, don’t hesitate. Do it straight away.
Thursday
Chevron
Chevron is one of the four holiest cities in Israel!
Avraham avinu bought the cave known as mearas hamachpela where all the avot and imahot are buried. Except one! Do you know which one? Do you know where she is buried instead?
Fun fact
Avraham avinu lived in chevron for 75 years!
Life lesson
The stories that happened to the Avot and Imahot are a lesson for us, their children.
Whenever we learn a story from the Torah we should think about something we can learn that we can improve in our own lives.
Example: From Avraham and Sarah we learn Hachnasat Orchim
