Structure of Dissertation

The dissertation was composed of five connected chapters

Chapter One

In the first chapter, a general introduction to the study is presented. It established the context for the study by discussing the research background, problem statement, research objectives, significance of the research, and dissertation structure.

Chapter Two

This chapter presents the literature review for the study, which covers four main thematic areas. The first section discussed the concepts related to the study's themes, namely the digital skills divide and disruptive technologies in engineering,

with a particular emphasis on mechanical engineering education. The second section discussed the study's theoretical framework, which included grand theories (technological determinism and disruptive model), middle theories (Diffusion of Innovations Theory and Social Learning Theory), and applied theory (Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Skills Mismatch Theory). In addition, the chapter reviews prior research on disruptive technologies in education and training, the use of disruptive technologies in engineering education, and the skills deficit in the engineering industry and its effect on graduates. In section four of the literature review, the conceptual framework for the investigation was presented.

Chapter Three

This chapter discussed the strategies used to achieve the study's objectives, including the research methods and materials. It covered the research design, participants, and research sites, as well as data collection, data analysis, and ethical considerations.

Chapter Four

This chapter presented the research findings in accordance with the objectives of the study and included discussions of the findings. In presenting and discussing the study's findings, the chapter followed a thematic structure.

Chapter Five

Chapter V presents conclusions, implications, and recommendations for policy implementation and further study.
