Data comes to life when visualized on a map!
Data is useful if you want to understand the world around you or make informed decisions. But raw data is extremely hard to understand – it needs to be reliable, consistent, relevant and accessible. Visualizing data as charts or maps can make it much easier to draw insights and answer questions. PolicyMap is a one-stop-shop for a huge variety of public and commercial data as well as the tools to map this data.

Data Features:

  • More than 15,000 data sets available across multiple categories:

    • Demographics, real estate, crime, home sales, consumer spending, education, unemployment, health, mass transit, public investments and more.

  • All data is cleaned, assembled, aggregated and updated on a regular basis

  • Sources include data from the U.S. Census, FBI, IRS, HHS and HDMA, as well as third party providers, for data pertaining to anything from home sales to school performance.

  • Self-service data loader: Upload custom, user-generated data and leverage it against the thousands of data sets already available in PolicyMap, and share it with anyone inside or outside of the organization.

  • Contemporary search function and interface makes finding data simple and fast

Mapping & Analysis Features

  • Create full-screen maps, tables and reports that visualize the data you’ve researched and gain strategic insights without expensive software or training.

  • Use PolicyMap for research, market studies, business planning, site selection, grant applications and impact analysis.

  • Generate market and housing reports for specific cities, counties, states, political districts or custom areas, and use its analytic tools to drill down and analyze results based on specified criteria.

  • Layer multiple data sets on a single map for deeper analysis and comparisons.

Customers

PolicyMap was designed particularly for non-GIS users – the decision makers and researchers who want to have tools they can use themselves. PolicyMap is available as a single or multi-user subscription or site license by organizations including some of the biggest names in banking, real estate, government, education, non-profit, philanthropy and the media. Customers include the National Association of Realtors, Comcast, Citibank, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Reserve Bank and Wolters Kluwer Financial Services. In addition, libraries at prestigious Universities including University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers, Tufts and Syracuse are site-license customers and have made PolicyMap available to all students.

Company Background

PolicyMap is part of The Reinvestment Fund (TRF), a national leader in the financing of neighborhood revitalization that has invested $1.3 billion in Mid-Atlantic community development programs since 1985. TRF funded programs include affordable housing, schools, businesses, supermarkets and other projects that build wealth and opportunity for the people and places that need it the most. TRF partnered with 3D-L to create the technology that powers PolicyMap, leveraging an expertise in displaying geographic data as highly sophisticated and draggable maps in standard Web browsers.

Maggie McCullough is the founder and president of PolicyMap, with an extensive career in local, state and federal government. She has worked for the City of Philadelphia's Office of Housing and then-Governor Casey of Pennsylvania, the Office of Management and Budget within the Clinton Administration, and within the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. McCullough joined TRF in 2004, conducting housing-related research and analysis for its public sector and foundation clients. In 2008 she conceived the idea of PolicyMap as a national online data analysis and mapping service of TRF and launched the application in 2008. McCullough has a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from St. Joseph's University and a Masters in Governmental Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
