Second Stage Theatre (Artistic Director Carole Rothman, Executive Director Ellen Richard) will kick off its 28th season with Eric Bogosian’s suburbia, directed by Jo Bonney. subUrbia will begin previews on September 6 and will officially open on Thursday, September 28 at 6:45pm at Second Stage Theatre, 307 West 43rd Street. Eric Bogosian’s groundbreaking and bitterly funny play subUrbia examines a day in the life of seven rootless young Americans who gather in the parking lot of a Pakistani family’s convenience store. It’s an all-night whirlwind of drinking, sex and violence and a clear-eyed, tragic look at nine young American lives. The play, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theatre in 1994, will be updated for this production. subUrbia will feature Diksha Basu, Jessica Capshaw, Kieran Culkin, Michael Esper, Halley Feiffer, Kelli Garner, Daniel Eric Gold, Manu Narayan, Peter Scanavino. subUrbia will have scenic design by Richard Hoover; costume design by Mimi O’Donnell; lighting design by David Weiner; and sound design by Rob Kaplowitz. WHO’S WHO IN THE COMPANY Playwright ERIC BOGOSIAN has written the plays Talk Radio; Humpty Dumpty; Drinking in America; Funhouse; Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll; Griller; Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead; and Wake Up and Smell the Coffee¸ among others. His plays have earned him three Obie Awards and a Drama Desk Award. He is also the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Berlin Film Festival’s “Golden Bear” award (Germany’s equivalent to the Oscar), and was a Pulitzer finalist for Talk Radio. He adapted his plays subUrbia and Talk Radio for the screen (also starring in the latter) and has written the novels Mall and Wasted Beauty, both published by Simon & Schuster. OBIE Award-winner JO BONNEY returns to Second Stage Theatre where she staged the critically acclaimed productions of A Soldier’s Play and Living Out. Her other directing credits include The Seven at New York Theatre Workshop; Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig; Lanford Wilson’s Fifth of July (Signature Theatre); Jose Rivera's Adoration of the Old Woman (La Jolla Playhouse) and References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot (The Public Theater); Eric Bogosian's Humpty Dumpty; Funhouse; Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll; Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead; and Wake Up and Smell the Coffee; and Danny Hoch's Some People and Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop, among many others. DIKSHA BASU was born and raised in New Delhi. She is a 2005 graduate of Cornell University, where she majored in French and Economics. Diksha made her NYC stage debut last year under the direction of Geeta Citygirl and recently played the lead in Harvest at La Mama E.T.C. under the direction of Benjamin Mosse. JESSICA CAPSHAW appeared in Neil Labute’s Fat Pig, directed by Jo Bonney, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. TV work includes the Emmy-nominated mini-series “Into the West.” She played Jame Singer for two seasons of David E. Kelly’s “The Practice” and will be a series regular on the upcoming “Thick and Thin” (produced by Lorne Michaels). Jessica also recently completed several episodes of “The L Word.” Film credits include The Groomsmen, directed by Ed Burns, Valentine, and the Miramax film A View from the Top. KIERAN CULKIN appeared off-Broadway last season opposite Anna Paquin in After Ashley (Vineyard Theatre) and in the West End opposite Colin Hanks in This is Our Youth. He has appeared in the films Igby Goes Down, The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, The Cider House Rules, Music of the Heart, Father of the Bride, The Mighty, and She’s All That. MICHAEL ESPER’s New York theatre credits include Manic Flight Reaction at Playwrights Horizons, As You Like It at the NY Shakespeare Festival, Big Bill at Lincoln Center, Gone Missing with The Civilians at the Zipper, The Hospital Plays with the HB Playwrights Foundation, and Moon Bath Girl at the EST Marathon. He recently completed work on the feature films Bittersweet Place, directed by Alexandra Brodsky, and Loggerheads, directed by Tim Kirkman. HALLEY FEIFFER makes her off-Broadway debut with this production. New York Theater: Urgent Fury (Cherry Lane Theater), Feiffer's People (Backhouse Productions). Halley's work as a playwright has been produced at the Cherry Lane Theater (Young Playwrights' Festival XXII) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She will graduate this spring from Wesleyan University. KELLI GARNER was last seen Off-Broadway in Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead at the Century Center. Film credits include Dreamland with Justin Long and Agnes Bruckner; Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator; Larry Clark’s Bully; Love, Liza with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Kathy Bates; and Thumbsucker. DANIEL ERIC GOLD has appeared off-Broadway in The Paris Letter (Roundabout Theatre Company, dir. Doug Hughes), Small Tragedy (Playwrights Horizons, dir. Mark Wing-Davey - OBIE award, Lortel nomination), Cagelove (Rattlestick Theatre, dir. Adam Rapp), This Thing of Darkness (Atlantic Theater Company, dir. Craig Lucas), Beautiful Thing (Cherry Lane Theatre, dir. Gary Griffin). Regional credits include The Singing Forest (World Premiere) and Loot (both at Intiman Theatre), Dealer's Choice (Victory Gardens Theater), Indiscretions (Organic Theater), Henry V (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre). Upcoming film: Spinning Into Butter with Sarah Jessica Parker. MANU NARAYAN appeared on Broadway in Bombay Dreams (Drama League recognition).
