Notes

  1. Elevation is shown on a relief map.

  2. About one million years ago, the earth was cooler than now.

  3. A sheet of ice and snow is called a glacier.

  4. The Ice Age ended about 10,000 years ago.

  5. Today, the land of New Jersey is being changed by moving water.

  6. The Atlantic Coastal Plain runs from New Jersey to Georgia.

  7. The most populated city on the inner coastal plain is Camden.

  8. The Pine Barrens are located on the outer costal plain.

  9. The largest city in area in New Jersey is Vineland.

  10. The seashore is part of the outer coastal plain.

  11. Two of the oldest seashore resorts in the country are Long Branch and Cape May.

  12. The place where the Atlantic Coastal Plain meets the Piedmont is called the Fall Line.

  13. The northernmost city on the Fall Line is Trenton.

  14. The Piedmont has good farmland.

  15. The Piedmont is sometimes called the Newark Basin.

  16. The greatest part of New Jersey’s industry is located in the Piedmont.

  17. The Highlands have most of New Jersey’s lakes.

  18. Two important cities in the Highlands are Philipsburg and Hackettstown.

  19. The highest point in New Jersey is High Point.

  20. Most farms in the Ridge and Valley Region are dairy farms.

  9. Contour Lines – The lines on a map that separate the colors used to show elevation of the land.

  10. Fall Line – The place where the Piedmont meets the Atlantic Coastal Plain.
