How do VoIP phones work?

If you have been in business for quite a while then chances are that VoIP is a term that you will be very familiar with. Often seen as a way to help cut-down costs and provide a unique platform for communication right across a business, VoIP technology can offer you a completely new approach to your business telephone system.

VoIP phones are a very important part of your VoIP system – they are the way that you use it! And although they are not terribly different from traditional phones, they do have the ability to integrate directly with this VoIP technology which allows you to use it in the same way that you would a landline. In fact, in many situations your staff may not even realise that they are using a VoIP system as opposed to a traditional landline.

What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol is a system where your telephone system is run through an internet connection in contrast to a traditional landline, and as such it helps to not only cut down costs, but also make your telephone line far more efficient. By working closely with the internet, VoIP can offer you a wide range of communications options which include the ability to communicate over a vast network and to integrate tele-conferencing and video-conferencing technology.

VoIP sends data packets from one telephone to another over a traditional internet connection and although there have been a number of concerns in regards to the quality and security that this system poses, there are now services available which can not only help to ensure that these lines are incredibly secure, but also that they give you the same quality, if not better quality than a traditional landline.

What benefits can this bring to my business?

There are a number of benefits which can be brought about through VoIP phones but perhaps the most prominent of these is the amount of money which can be saved throughout the use of this service. In contrast to the rental costs of a traditional landline, VoIP technology runs solely through the internet, so instead of having to pay hefty costs of international calls, you are only charged the data cost of your internet connection instead.
