Installing Windows 7 on a Mac

   Open the Boot Camp Assistant.

   The assistant will open and explain the purpose of the application. You may press the "Continue" button in the bottom right-hand corner.

   If you are prompted to download windows support software to your computer, choose: “I have already downloaded the Windows support software…”

   You will be directed to the "Create a Partition for Windows" page. This section will determine the size of the Windows partition and the space remaining on your Mac partition. Although this process may be reverted back to a single partition at a later point, you will be unable to resize the partition. Choose a size for your Windows partition by clicking the "·" between the Mac and Windows partitions. If unsure about how much space to allow for your windows partition, it is recommended that you allocate 80GB of space. Macbook Air users may want to consider a lower number, since the average hard drive size is much smaller. If you are unsure, contact the UITS Support Center for help.

   Once you have the drive size divided to meet your needs, choose "Partition". This process will sometimes take several minutes to isolate a section of the drive for Windows.

   After the computer has partitioned the disk, you will need to insert your Windows disk into the computer and choose "Start Installation" (You will need to wait ~15 seconds after placing the Windows disk in the drive before pressing "Start Installation")
   

“Start Installation” will restart the computer automatically. When the computer restarts, there may be a screen that prompts “press any key to boot from a CD”; press a key if it appears. You should then see a prompt “Windows is loading files”.

   Once Windows has finished loading files, you will see a blue or green Windows installer screen:
   
   1. 
      Choose your language.
      
   2. 
      Select your time zone (IUN campus is on Central Time. All other IU campuses are on Eastern Time).
      
   3. 
      Press “Install Now”.
      
   4. 
      Read through the license agreement and if you agree check the box and press “Next”.
      
   5. 
      Choose the “Custom (Advanced)” installation option.
      
   6. 
      You will now see a screen with several partitions, you will need to select the partition listed as “BOOTCAMP” (It should be similar in size to the partition size you chose while in the Boot Camp assistant.
      
   7. 
      CAUTION: DO NOT FORMAT ALL OF THE PARTITIONS IN THIS MENU, only the partition for Windows. Click “Drive options (Advanced)” and then with the “BOOTCAMP” partition selected choose “Format”. This will then prompt you to erase everything on the partition; however, the Mac should have already removed all the files from this space and prepared it for Windows. Select “Yes”.
      
   8. 
      When you click “Next” with “BOOTCAMP” selected after formatting, the Windows installation will begin. At this point the process will be automatic for ~20-45 minutes. During this time, you will want to ensure that the computer is plugged into a power source while you wait.
      
   9. 
      After the installation completes, you will be prompted to enter information such as a name for your computer, an account name, password, etc. The computer may restart several times in this process. When your computer has booted to the point where you may click the start button in Windows the installation is complete.

    Eject the disk (Go to [Start]  Computer  Highlight the DVD Drive  Click “Eject” in the top menu bar).
    

8. 
   Once Windows is installed, you will need to install the Windows support software and drivers. The drivers allow for the use of the network card, camera, Apple Remote, track pad and function keys.

   Once the drivers are installed, you may then connect to the network and use the Windows partition as you wish. Instructions for connecting to the IU Secure wireless network may be located here:
