Introducing…

Atlantic Business Magazine’s Super Start-up Program!

In keeping with Atlantic Business Magazine’s mission of promoting business activity throughout the region, we’re celebrating our 25th anniversary by launching a Super Start-up program. With the help of our corporate partners (see list on next page), we are providing 26 Super Start-up subsidies (each consisting of $2,500 cash plus 25 hours of mentorship) to aspiring entrepreneurs throughout Atlantic Canada. Though we hope to make this an annual event, the continuation of the Super Start-up program will depend on the depth and level of interest from program participants.

How to apply

Aspiring Atlantic Canada entrepreneurs (must be resident in one of the four Atlantic provinces as of the application deadline) are invited to apply.

To apply, applicants must submit a copy of their business plan along with a cover letter detailing:

  • how this Super Start-up fund will advance his/her business;

  • knowledge/advisory assistance they hope to receive from their prospective mentor; and,

  • the applicant’s top three picks from the list of 26 corporate partners, explaining why you feel you are a good match for these particular companies. (Note: though we cannot guarantee successful applicants will get one of their top picks as their mentor, every effort will be made to do so.)

Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of the business plan, the originality of the idea, the business’s probability of success and mentor suitability.

Super Start-up subsidy winners will each receive a cheque for $2,500 as well as 25 hours of mentorship (mentor hours may be provided by more than one individual within the host company). Though the 25 hours of mentoring must be provided before the end of the current calendar year, the exact terms/type/frequency of the mentoring will be decided by the mentor and subsidy winner.
In accepting the Super Start-up fund, each subsidy winner agrees to post a monthly blog about their experience on the Atlantic Business Magazine website (can be text, video or audio blog). Blog posts to begin with subsidy award and end in December 2014.
Deadline to apply: Friday, February 21, 2014
