What are the lesson objectives?
Upon completion of these lessons, the student will

  • Learn to format a Personal Business Letter Create labels

  • Change the font Format a Modified Block Business Letter

  • Change the font size

  • Apply font styles

  • Create an envelope




Standards addressed and expectations of students:
§130.272 (b) Students develop computer literacy skills to adapt to emerging technologies used in the global marketplace. Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to prepare for a rapidly evolving workplace environment. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the information technology environment.

Anticipatory Set:
Identify and name the parts of a Modified Block and Personal Business Style Letters

Think-Pair-Share: Students will work in their prospective groups, collaborate, and share their views

orally about the objectives

Questions and Answer Cues: Students will be randomly selected to check for understanding

Recognition: Students will be acknowledged for knowledge, understanding, focus, and effort
Instructional Delivery:


  • Think-Pair-Share group work (10 – 15 minutes)

  • Direct Instruction or Guided Practice (30 minutes)

  • Independent Practice/Teacher faciliator (35 minutes)

  • Exit Ticket, Check for Understanding, Review, Reteach (10 minutes)

Guided Practice and Monitoring:

  • Type and format a business letter in Block Style

  • Type and format a business letter in Modified Block Style

  • Complete Kahoot.it Quiz #7, Checking for Understanding

  • Successfully pass General Information Test #4, covering styles of business letters

Independent Practice:

  • On Your Own, Keying a Modified Block Style Letter, Exercise 6, p. 71 and class handout

  • Students will continue keying their Word Wall for the 2nd six weeks

  • Students will continue keying their Autobiography

  • Students will continue keying their Bi-fold Thanksgiving card

  • Student will continue keying their personal resume


Extension Activity: Students may practice any 5’ Timed Writing from Timing Packet 1-10
Review/Reteach/Exit Ticket:

Students will complete an Exit Ticket during the last 10 minutes of class over today’s topic(s)


Closure: Use the internet, research, find and learn the parts of a Block, Modified Block and the Personal

Business Letter
