NEWSLETTER 10. 9th April 2014

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The Fundraiser day for Small Poppies was a wonderful success. We thank Liz and all her team at Small Poppies for organising this event. I hear that over $1000 was raised. Thank you for allowing your children to participate in it.

We look forward to seeing you at Parent Interviews this week. If you do not have a booking, please ring Karen in the Office, and she can help you. Room 3 Interviews have been deferred until next term.

Next week, on Wednesday 16th, we are taking the whole school to Rodney College for the Tai Tokerau Secondary School Kapa Haka Festival. We are going to see Otamatea College perform at 12.25. Please sign the permission slip below. Thanks to Luke Connelly, there will not be any charge for this trip. Luke fundraised for our school by selling Hangi Meals at the recent Touch Prizegiving Day. He raised enough to cover the costs of hiring buses for our trip to the Tai Tokerau Festival. Thank you Luke.

For this reason, we have arranged for the Pumpkin Competition to start at 9.00.

Please arrange to have your giant pumpkins here before 9.00am. Each child is asked to bring a coin to vote for the best Arty-Farty Dressed Up Pumpkin. The money collected goes towards the prizes.

The last day that the pool will be open is Easter Monday -21st April.

We will follow this fun activity with Appreciation Day. The treat for this will be small toys at school. So the plan for the day is:

8.30 Roll and Notices

9.00 Giant Pumpkin Competition

9.40 Morning Tea

10.00 Appreciation Day Activities

11.00 Prepare for Bus trip to Rodney College

11.20 Depart. Lunch. Performance

1.30 Return to Kaiwaka School

2.20 School Ends as per usual

Warm Regards, Rosemarie Ellis

The Share Hand: Encouragement

Each week the staff and Students at Kaiwaka School will be concentrating on one aspect of the Share Hand. This week we are looking at; e – encouragement. To be safe and receive a share hand your child will need to:

In all settings

  • Be a good role mode

  • Remind others of the rules

  • Give puts ups

In the classroom –

  • Positively acknowledge others work and ideas

At lunch eating time –

  • Encourage others to sit and finish eating

On a school trip –

  • Support others in a challenge

This week is business as usual so this is a good chance for your child to practice encouragement in all settings of the school. Talk with your child so they have a clear understanding of expectations. All share hands received go into a box and one is drawn on the Monday. The child whose name is drawn receives a prize. This is recorded in the Wednesday Newsletter.
