Subgenus Ptilosarus Mitchell

Megachile subgenus Ptilosarus Mitchell 1943b: 667. Type species: Megachile bertonii Schrottky. Original designation.

Cressoniella subgenus Ptilosarus Mitchell 1980: 63.

This subgenus of 15 species ranges from Mexico to Paraguay.

Megachile bidentis Cockerell 1896: 288-289. Male (not female). Type locality: San Rafael, Vera Cruz, Mexico (C. H. T. Townsend). Type repository: AMNH. Examined. In the description Cockerell mentions the presence of a scopa, but the specific name suggests that he examined a male - as the type is.
