-Emerging Tech Camps are well attended.
-The committee is in need of Children’s Librarians to be part of the Committee. (Topics include Common Core, STEAM) No expertise needed, committee researches programs that can be pushed and adapted in the library and geared towards children and tweens.
Emerging Tech Camp May 27 @ Fairport Library 9:00- 12:00 All welcome
Topics always include presentations and some type of hands-on activities/ The Fairport Camp will consist of hands-on activities geared towards children and tweens.
Emerging Tech Committee Meeting May 20th at Ogden Farmer’s Library 2:30pm – Meetings are once a month, less during summer months. Email Greg Benoit for more information or call him @ Gates Library 429-8298
Announcements:
-East Rochester made their position professional (Congrats to Kelly Rosengren)
-Reminder of Good Reads Books. Shelves have been added. Please add titles (Amy Holland)
-Brighton will be closed mid-June to early July. Will refer patrons to other libraries –Elissa
-Margaret from Monroe will scan and send out to the J list Dog’s Colorful Day (The online pattern is incorrect). She will also hold a Story walk for the book.
-Sue from Brockport will have a student who will share his Olympic experience in a program on May 26th.
Thank you to everyone who worked on the April Retreat.
-Recruiting for the 2017 Retreat. It will be held on the second Wednesday of April. Program is Mother Goose on the Loose with Betsy Diamant-Cohen. Every library will get a binder with Mother Goose on the Loose (English and Spanish)
Pioneer wants to join us in the retreat. More to follow…..
Retreat Committee – Margaret, Sarah, Judy, Jill, Kim, Rosa
We have an opportunity to design a library card just for children. The committee consists of:
Vinise, Mary Jo, Caitlyn, Shamika, Margaret, Sarah, Maria.
Family Literacy Grant – Includes Betsy for 2017 J Retreat and trainings with Anne Hicks and Tonia
Early Learning Spaces is a new training. These trainings are open to anyone in your building who wants to learn more of children’s programs. (Director’s permission required) They will be offered for the next 3 years. A survey on the trainings will be sent out soon. If anyone would like the training at their library contact Tonia.
(Grant money for professional development /Early literacy will be determined when state budget passes).
-Keep an eye out for Parent Magazine may issue. Please send extras to Tonia that you do not want.
-3,000 dollars for J tech committee to buy gadgets/ Will live at Central but can be checked out.
ALSC institute cancelled their meeting in North Carolina, will be adding to the MidWinter meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.
Read Around the County
4 library visits
Libraries that participate get 4 tickets to the Zoo. We will track people who participate, send gameboards to Tonia.
Patrons can submit gameboards to last library/send all entries to Tonia.
Pre-stamp your gameboards, every branch participating will have a winner/Boardgames will depend on last year’s participation numbers.
Summer Reading Prizes:
1 Seabreeze, 4 Genesee Country Village, Bruegger’s for children only 12 and under!
For Wendy’s and McDonalds go to location nearest you.
No Applebee’s / You can ask for Taco Bell on your own.
