Admissions tests are required for the following high schools: (1) McNair Academic High School; (2) all Catholic high schools listed below.


McNair Academic High School

  • This is a Jersey City public school, ranked as one of the top high schools in the state and has a very competitive admissions process.

  • There is no open house.

  • Students must take an admissions test consisting of the PSAT plus an essay in October.

Infinity Institute

  • Like McNair Academic, Infinity Institute is an academically rigorous school, which is part of Jersey City Public Schools. The admissions process for Infinity is the same as McNair.

  • Also like McNair, the PSAT is the admissions test for Infinity. Students interested in both McNair and Infinity will have to fill out separate applications, however they can to take the PSAT on either school’s test date, as scores are shared between the schools.

Innovation High School

  • This is a new high school through Jersey City Public Schools. The admission process involves an application, but no test is required.

  • The school is housed within Snyder HS, but is in a separate wing of the building and has its own entrance on Kennedy Blvd.

  • S.T.E.A.M. focus (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). The school is affiliated with NJCU and allows students to earn college credits while still in high school.


High Tech High School

  • This is a Hudson County public school and also very competitive.

Hudson County Prep

  • This is a Hudson County public school and also very competitive.

  • There is no admissions test.

Hudson School

  • This is a private school, and students must pay tuition to attend. However, needs-based financial aid is available.

  • Students are required to take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) prior to submitting an application. For more information and to register online visit http://erblearn.org/parents/admission/isee

Catholic Schools

  • You do not have to be Catholic to attend one of these schools.

  • Open Houses are held at the various schools

  • Students must take an admissions test called the COOP on November 9th (Registration due date: October 12th)

  • Students must also submit the 9th grade Applicant Record (available on the COOP website) to Mr. Laster by Friday November 30th




    • Saint Peter’s Prep H.S.

      • This is an all-boys Catholic school.

      • Fine Arts Program, Honors Program

      • In addition to the Catholic H.S. applications, you must also fill out a separate St. Peter's application. (Due: November 15)

      • Students can participate in Freshman-for-a-Day.

    • St. Dominic Academy

      • This is an all-girls Catholic school.

University Academy Charter High School

  • Students who graduate from this high school with at least a 3.2 GPA will be eligible to receive a 4 year full academic scholarship to attend NJCU.

Great Futures Charter High School for Health Sciences

  • All students will participate in academic and college/career-readiness experiences in the health sciences/medical professions, concentrating on placements at the Jersey City Medical Center at the hospital location.  All students will have opportunities to obtain college credits during the high school years.
