PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Christmas dinner was held in the clubhouse on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 5:00 PM. One hundred and twenty (120) dinners were served to shareholders and guests in the clubhouse with an additional twenty six (26) takeout orders delivered to shareholders. The menu consisted of ham, mashed potato, green string beans, sweet potatoes, hot dinner rolls, cake with ice cream, and coffee furnished by Der Dutchman restaurant. I am so pleased to look around at the clubhouse filled to capacity with shareholders enjoying a dinner and fellowship. It makes my heart sing.
Leslie Dressel did an outstanding job as master of ceremonies and her group of volunteers did an exceptional job in planning and completing a very successful Christmas dinner. Functions like the Christmas Dinner do not happen without the participation of many volunteers. Set up tables, Decorating, Servers, Raffle, take out Delivery, and Clean up. The following people were responsible for a very successful Christmas dinner; Norma Atherton, Chico Bear, Jane Chappell, Linda Cole, Roger Cole, Theresa Cox, John Dalla Betta, Kathy Dalla Betta, Natalie DeMichele, Pete DeMichele, Mary Lou Dolanch, Pam Doran, Allan Dressel, Bob Foskett, Elaine Giganti, Ed Gray, Nora Gray, Rosalind Gray, Angela Haedicke, Jurgen Haedicke, Jolene Hutchinson, Bill Koukal, Lynn Koukal, Lorraine LeDuc, Sonny LeDuc, Sandy Lux, Dan MacPherson, Mary MacPherson, Penny Muzak, Billy Shanley, Kelley Shanley, Beth Slater, Connie Smith, Earl Smith, Dianne Solice, The Sunshine Boys: Tom Chappell, Tom Gallagher, George Norton, Jim Roland, Greg Tyler, Cheryl Taylor, Sidney Taylor, Mary Tortora, Denise Tyler, Marilyn Woodruff, Rick Woodruff, and Janice Woods.
I have included a few Christmas dinner photographs of shareholders enjoying mutual fellowship and the delectable delights of the day.
I am taking this opportunity to refresh and reinforce all shareholders of a few MEHOA Rules and Regulations that are pertinent at this time of year, they are as follows:
Rule1(a). OVERNIGHT VISITORS (INCLUDING FAMILY) SHALL REGISTER AT THE OFFICE. If the office is closed, please write your guest's name, your name and address and the date of guest's arrival and departure and put it in the drop box at the office. You may also call the office and leave this information on the answering service.
Rule 1 (b). Visitors may not occupy the mobile home or unit unless one or more of the owners is in occupancy at the time, or unless consented to in writing, by the Board of Directors. Immediate family members of the homeowner or unit owner (parents, grandparents, grandchildren, children, brothers and sisters) do not require written permission unless visiting for more than thirty (30) days.
Rule 1 (d). All children 10 years of age or under shall be accompanied with an adult while in the common areas of the park. (The swimming pool is a common area of the park).
By complying with the above rules you are enabling the CAM to maintain a current and valid list of who is in our park at any interval of time. It is incumbent upon the Board of Directors for safety and security of our shareholders to do so.
On behalf of the Mobile Estates office staff and the Board of Directors we sincerely wish you a healthy, blessed New Year.
David Leeman, President Mobile Estates
ACTIVITIES
Art in the Park – Wednesdays at 1:30 pm in the Clubhouse: This year, creative Lynn Koukal is expanding the art group to include instruction in painting, abstract art, stenciling, greeting card making, pencil coloring and art journaling. Everything you can imagine becomes real in art class. Most supplies will be offered. (Almost sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it.) Lynn places no restrictions on inspiration and will help you craft your own form of art. Really. A special class will be held in February to make masks for the upcoming Mardi Gras. Leslie Dressel will be providing the basic mask and it will be up to you to decorate it your way. Keep your eye on the newsletter for details.
Bingo – Tuesday and Friday nights at 7:00 pm: Some people just seem to have all the luck. There’s no explaining why Lady Luck followed Sis Sefcik so often one night that she became embarrassed! (Attagirl, Sis.) Dumb luck seems to court those who pay attention and have fun. The thrill of being one number away from a bingo is what keeps most people coming back. Sandy Lux seems to thoroughly enjoy handing out money and Bill Fralin has a little giggle in his voice as he calls the numbers and anticipates the response from the room.
Bocce – The Mobile Estates Bocce League will begin on Tuesday, January 10th, at 2:30 pm. There will be a pre-season get-together at the bocce court on Thursday, January 5th, at 3:00 pm. We will refresh our bocce talents, see our team numbers and discuss scheduling. -- Natalie DeMichele (aka “the commissioner”).
Book Club News – Thursday, January 29th at 2:00 pm in the Clubhouse women’s card room: Karen Miki has chosen “Mockingbird” by Kathryn Erskine this month. A young girl with Asperger’s must cope with the death of her brother, who always showed her how to act “normal”.
Bunco – Monday nights at 7:00 pm in the Clubhouse: Bunco is centered around dice and is a game of luck in an upbeat social setting involving lots of talking, so there’s always plenty to do. Bunco has been around for a long, long time, having started in Victorian England. Betty Caynor is the organizer. It's amazing to think that this rather simple game of dice is so popular and has such an audience. But once you become a Bunco gamer, it’s easy to understand that it's the atmosphere, friendships, and the chance to have some genuine fun that makes it an enjoyable past-time.
Chairdancing – Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 10:00 am: Don’t let the name fool you; this is a total body workout done at three levels to accommodate the advanced, the hopeless and the in-between. It even helps people with arthritis and knee, hip or back problems. Since the chairs in the
Clubhouse are somewhat low, you might want to bring pillows if you’re tall to avoid overworking your hips. (Your hips should be parallel with your knees.) After having temporarily lost the Chairdancing videos, Doris Ford (bad girl) will be backing up Mary Tortora at Chair dancing. (We can thank Millie Kelly for finding them.)
Chair Yoga –Tuesday, January 10th , at 10:00 am: This ancient practice limbers stiff joints with its slow and comforting movements. You will leave feeling younger than when you walked in. More yoga and/or relaxation classes will become available if they are requested.
Hand Weights – Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 10:45 am following Chairdancing: You might want to start off without any hand weights at all until you build up your strength. (Just going through the motions builds you up.) If you don’t want to invest in hand weights ($5.00 at “Five Below”), you could use cans, books, or anything else you can wrap your hand around. This is a class that builds muscle FAST.
Koffee Klatch – Saturday morning, January 21st, at 9:00 am: Total Control Termite & Pest Professionals will sponsor this month’s Recreation Meeting. Infestation and prevention are serious issues important to all of us. Bring your concerns to these bug slayers recommended by our former resident exterminator. Be there or be infested! (We promise there will be no bugs in your breakfast.)
Movie Night – Saturday, January 7th, at 7:00 pm: Movie Nights resume the first Saturday of each month in the New Year, hosted by Bill and Lynn Koukal. Free popcorn is provided but bring your own soda or other snacks if you choose. This month’s movie is called “Summer Snow”, a delightful story of a family who tries to cope with the daily living routine and challenges after the untimely loss of their Mother, and the creative resources of the youngest daughter, who helps to restore healing and hope to others. – Bill Koukal
Nine-Ball League – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-5:00 pm: Forget luck – the only way to win this billiards game is with skill. The simple rules and straightforward goal of9-ball make it easy for new players to learn. It’s also entertaining to watch. You need to sign up NOW if you want to join the league this year. The sign-up sheet is on the wall near the pool table.
Pokeno – Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm: Pokeno is a logical combination of Poker and Keno (or Lotto), with features that make it more interesting and exciting than either. Up to 24 people can play, so there’s room for more players.
Potluck Dinner – Wednesday, January 18th, at 5:30 pm: Come join us for a fun and friendly dinner with the neighbors. Hosted by Dianne Solice. Bring your favorite dish to share with the group! Also, we ask that you bring your own plate, silverware and drinks. Hope to see you there! - Pam Doran
Walk It Off – Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 9:00 am in the Clubhouse: Face it, we gotta walk off all that holiday eating. If not, good luck buckling that belt or pulling up that zipper. (It’s time now to pay the piper.) Let Kathy and John Dalla Betta help you hit the “undo” button with their thoroughly enjoyable walking class.
Water Aerobics – Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 11:15 am: Marilyn Woodruff has kindly delayed the starting time of Water Aerobics to let the group from Hand Weights scurry into the pool after class. Water Aerobics now starts at 11:15 am. A few men have been spotted doing the aerobics down at the deep end of the pool. They are very welcome to join if they wish.
Write On! – First Thursday of every month starting January 5th at 1:30 pm in the Clubhouse: If you have an interest in learning how to put your thoughts and impressions down on paper, or perhaps would like to write a poem or short story, or even a novel, you are encouraged to enjoy the world of writing with this group. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the Clubhouse for “Write On!” writers and wanna-be’s. Please fill out your name and phone number on the sheet provided, and one of us will contact you. This is both a fun and stimulating group. Thanks. -- Jackie Cyr and Lynn Koukal.
HONORABLE MENTION Leslie Dressel coordinated and graciously emceed an elegant Christmas Dinner. The Clubhouse was gaily decorated to the max. Waiting for us on the table were appetizers, warm dinner rolls, chocolates and a pot of coffee. Out of the 20 or so raffle prizes given out, Mary MacPherson won three of them! (Deservedly so, since she bought $60 worth of raffle tickets!) Ken Engelbreit won twice. Kudos to Leslie and the amazing volunteers who planned, informed, decorated, set up, checked in guests, led us in prayer, served, and entertained us. Clean-up was completed in 30 minutes and the clubhouse was returned to its initial state.
Have you noticed the beautiful decorations in the windows of the Clubhouse? They were made by Angela Haedicke, who deserves praise for her creativity. Who knew she could turn paper into stained glass?
The mystery of who is helping Karen Thomas sort the books in the library has been solved! It is none other than Jackie Cyr. Not surprising, since Jackie is a lover of literature and an outstanding writer. (You can catch Jackie, along with Lynn Koukal, at “Write On!”, where she will be happy to share her ideas and her creative writing skills.)
We are most especially grateful to Jane Cornell (often referred to in the park as Jane Chappell) for creating the list of birthdays published herein. The Birthday List has been conspicuously missing from the newsletter this year, but Jane somehow found a way to produce it (which must’ve been a heck of a lot of work). We want Jane to know that she has made us all happy. The newsletter now seems complete. Let’s always be appreciative of those who make us happy.

WHAT’S HAPPENING There are a lot of raccoons around the park this year (Last year, it was opossums.) so we need to keep a tight lid on our trash containers.
Our new Comcast Representative is Korwin Wills. His phone number is 941-376-8605. There is a chance that Comcast may sponsor our next Koffee Klatch in February, since their presentation last year broke records for attendance. They straightened out many problems and they gave out many prizes.
OPEN INVITATION Please continue to contribute to the newsletter by sending entries to mehoa.newsletter@outlook.com. If you don’t use email, you can drop them by the office or slip them into the drop-off box outside the office. You can also call Mary Tortora directly at 617-383-1318. Personal ads and announcements are permitted. All submissions are subject to acceptance, editing and available space. We are looking forward to receiving your submissions.
