Forensic Science Expertise Opportunities (DNA, Toxicology/Chemistry, Toolmarks/Firearms, & Latent Prints)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC) is seeking mid-to-senior level forensic science experts in the areas of DNA Analysis, Forensic Toxicology/Chemistry, Toolmarks/Firearms Examination, and Latent Print Examination.  We have potential employment opportunities that are contingent upon contract award.  We are actively seeking expressions of interest from candidates so that we may reach out to qualified individuals for inclusion in our proposal or for invitation to join our applicant pool once we are in a position to hire.

The responsibilities of these positions will include provision of subject matter expertise to global forensic and biometric laboratories in support of military identity management activities.  

These opportunities are contingent upon contract award and would require work availability beginning mid-2016. DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

Required qualifications for these positions include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Ability to successfully pass a skills assessment.

  • Possession of and ability to maintain an active security clearance (minimum Secret and TS/SCI if applicable).

  • Ability to successfully pass all medical requirements for deployment (if applicable).

  • Valid U.S. Passport that will not expire through deployment (if applicable).

DNA Examiner (Senior & Junior)

(a) Six (6) years of experience for Sr. level and four (4) years’ experience Jr. level working in a forensic laboratory performing DNA analysis on criminal evidence, including blood and bloodstains, body fluids, and stains of body fluids, hair and other items requiring DNA or related analysis; generation of DNA profiles, performance of visual and microscopic examination of hairs; comparison of evidence from victims, scenes, or instruments of incidents to evidence from suspects.

(b) Professional certification such as American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) is desired.

(c) One (1) year of experience as the lead of a team of DNA analysts is desired for Sr. Level

 

Latent Print Examiner (Senior & Junior)

(a) Six (6) years of experience for Sr. level and four (4) years’ experience for Jr. level in the processing of material for latent prints, recovery of latents, examination, visualizing/recording latents, and evaluating latent prints in a forensics laboratory.

(b) Professional Certification is required by the International Association of Identification (IAI).

(c) Proficiency utilizing AFIS, ABIS, and/or other National databases.

(d) Work location:  Atlanta, GA with OCONUS deployments.

 

Firearms and Tool Mark Examiner

(a) Five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following fields: examination of lead and other metal fragments, examination and microscopic comparison of bullets, ammunition components, and firearms; examination of tool marks as having been produced by a particular tool; shot pattern examinations, gunshot residue examinations, trajectory analysis, and the collection, preservation, and processing of evidence and event reconstruction. Experience in more than one of the above fields.

(b) One (1) year of experience as the lead of a team of firearms and tool mark analysts.

  

Case File Manager/Evidence Custodian

(a) Two (2) years of experience in the following areas: receiving and documenting evidence in a forensics laboratory; maintenance of evidentiary integrity and chain of custody; preparation of examination requests; and, preparing, transmitting, and receiving mail evidence packages.

(b) Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally. (i.e. experience in writing technical reports, presenting briefs).

(c) Fully functional in the use of Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.

(d) Ability to utilize web based applications, entering and extracting data for the purposes of tracking and reporting on case files.

 

 Forensic Chemist



(a) Four (4) years of experience working in a laboratory performing drug and/or explosive chemical testing.

(b) Proficiency working with chemistry analytical methodologies Gas Chromatography (GC) and/or Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy.

 

Forensic Specialist

Two (2) years of experience in at least one of the following areas:

(a) Latent Prints Examination

(b) Firearms & Tool Marks 

(c) DNA Anlayis

(d) Forensic Chemistry
