May, 2006
Message from the District Commodore

It’s finally here! The 2006 sailing season is upon us and I hope you are all as excited as I am about sailing Lightnings in New England this season.
The high point of the season is always the New England District Championship regattas, and I’m really pleased that Fleet 145 at Lake Spofford is hosting both the championship regatta and the Womens, Juniors, and Masters regattas. I’d really like to encourage EVERY fleet in the district to be represented at these events, as well as the other District regattas.
Good attendance at these events has a number of positive effects:

First, it tells the host of the regatta that you appreciate the effort that they have put into running the event. Second, it helps show the strength of the Lightning in New England. Lastly, it’s just plain more fun when there are more boats!
Also, I’d like to ask every one of you to do your part to introduce the Lightning to other people this season. Whether it is Juniors, new sailors, sailors of other types of boats, or non-sailors, please make an attempt to show off the Lightning!

See you on the water!
Bill Fastiggi
District and ILCA Dues

All Fleet Treasurers should collect $5.00 from each fleet member for the District dues and send a check to the District Secretary. If you aren’t part of a Fleet please send your check directly. Please make out the check to New England Lightning District and mail it to:
Bob Shapiro

8 Webber Street

Wilmington, MA 01887
Also, do not forget to pay your fleet dues to the ILCA - $25 per year. Dues help maintain a strong class organization, which in the end makes our experience better and adds value to owning a Lightning.
District Email List and Mailing Labels

We are trying to use only one district email list. This list is maintained on the District Website http://www.lightningclass.net/ne/
Go to the “emailer” heading and add your email address as well as those of your crew and other fleet members. You can look at the entire list. You can use this to email regatta announcements to the district members.
If you need to make a change to this email list, send an email to the District Secretary Bob Shapiro (finallybk@gmail.com) or District Commodore Bill Fastiggi (bill@vtsailing.com)
If you wish to mail out regatta notices, you can purchase up-to-date mailing labels from the ILCA office (they are .10 each).
