  Steve opened up the meeting with introduction of all the directors and attendees.
  
• 
  A Legislative Update prepared by Paul Anzano was handed out. Steve briefly discussed the status of the Codey proposal regarding repeat 8^th graders for athletic advantage.
  
• 
  Mike Zapicchi will serve on the Legislative Committee to represent the NJSIAA which will be voting on the later school start time for high school students. A discussion ensued that even though the studies show that it will benefit the students, it will have a tremendous impact on the athletic department.
  
• 
  Steve touched on the Warren Hills Tragedy. He attended the funeral which he described as a sad tribute to an outstanding young man and student.
  
• 
  Amateur status athletes are prohibited from receiving cash awards. There was an issue over the summer in a Bowling Tournament where a monetary award was accepted.
  
• 
  Steve attended the NFHS Section I Meeting which was held in Massachusetts. Each state provided topics of concern. It was interesting to see that they have the same issues that we are dealing with here in New Jersey.
  
• 
  The 2015 NJSIAA Gallagher Hall of Fame Selections were announced. Clarence “Clary” Anderson; Frank Budd; Jordan Burroughs; Jeffrey Hammonds; The 1989 Hoffman High School Girls’ Basketball Team; Al Santorini; Jeff Torborg; Art Still; Gary Williams. The Hall of Fame Dinner will be held at the Pines Manor in Edison, NJ on December 7, 2015.

  The 2015 NJSIAA Sports Awards have been approved by the Committee. Don Danser was selected to receive the Award of Honor. Jack provided a handout which listed each recipient. The awards ceremony will take place on December 7, 2015 at the Hall of Fame Dinner.

  A handout was provided which listed the State Coach of the Year-New Jersey-2015
  
• 
  NJAdvance Media is now a co-sponsor for the Scholar Athlete Program and a Corporate Media Partner.
  
• 
  On December 10, 2015 from 9:30am-12:30 pm the NJSIAA will be hosting Dr. David Leigh, Psy. D., Director of Special Services, West Morris Regional School District. Finding the Line: Tough Coaching or Bully? HIB, Essential Elements for Acceptable Relationships Between Coaches and Team/Players. For more information and registration please visit our website under “Resources” and “Workshops/Training”. This is a great program and we encourage you to attend!

  Cross Country has had their first Drone Case at a meet. An athlete’s father followed his daughter throughout the course. Please be sure to remind your schools that there is a NO DRONE Policy.
  
• 
  There has been a change in the Cross Country Procedure which provides the coaches with more flexibility.
  

1. 
   The coach may submit a roster change up to midnight.
   
2. 
   Coaches may make up to 3 substitutions to their respective boys/girls rosters by that deadline.
   
3. 
   There will be NO additional substitutions the day of the Groups or MOC.

  2015-2016 Annual Dues/Affidavits/Resolutions Status. The deadline is October 16, 2015 and there were still 69 schools that did not submit all of the necessary items and/or outstanding invoices. The schools are sent packets in May and have plenty of time to complete the paperwork and pay the invoices. If the above items are not received by October 16, 2015 your school will not be seeded for the Fall Tournaments. Please remind the Athletic Director’s that this is their responsibility to ensure that this is done in a timely manner.

  The Auditor Report went very well, it set forth that revenue exceeded expenses by $203,997.20 up by $2,999.54 from the previous year.

  Update on the Compliance Program:
  

1. 
   Monitors have been chosen to begin visiting schools.
   
2. 
   A schedule with the list of schools has been set.
   
3. 
   A checklist will be provided.

  All of this information will be posted to the website by the end of the month so that the select schools will be notified ahead of time.
  
• 
  Please email Mzapicchi@njsiaa.org with all new Athletic Director’s names and information.

  Please be sure that the School Manager is updated and all the necessary information has been provided. The principal must be listed for the DQ notification, as well as the cell phone numbers of the athletic directors.
  
• 
  Updates for classification as to Co-ops. Only the LEA should list the sport (not both). Co-ed Swimming should only be listed as Men’s Swimming.
  
• 
  Just a reminder, every AD MUST join the AD Forum by logging into the website. Messages posted on the Forum by the NJSIAA are extremely important.
  
• 
  Tournament Refusal Deadlines:

  Soccer Seeding will be held on 10/28. If we are not notified of any changes for game time the games will be scheduled for 2:00pm. If a time change is needed it must be received by NOON 10/29/15. We encourage 4pm and 6pm games if you have lights but we must know in advance as set forth above. It also has to be a mutual agreement between both teams.
  
• 
  The NJSIAA will be assigning officials for Men’s/Women’s Soccer.
  
• 
  Home teams are responsible for paying the officials. The NJSIAA will pay for the officials at the State Semi-Finals and Finals at Neutral sites.
  

Conference Topics

• 
  BIG NORTH-Is there a waiver for non-publics to avoid the legislation to separate if it passes with their conferences support? Yes there is a potential for waivers to be granted.

**2015 NJSIAA GALLAGHER HALL OF FAME SELECTIONS

CLARENCE “CLARY” ANDERSON – COACH – He is most noted for his career as a five sport coach at Montclair High School over the course of 27 years across a total of 74 seasons. He coached football, baseball, ice hockey, basketball, and swimming, compiling a total winning percentage of .768. He was instrumental in the development of the North Jersey Scholastic Hockey League.
FRANK BUDD – ATHLETE - POSTHUMOUSLY – Frank was an outstanding high school athlete at Asbury Park High School and would then go on to Villanova where he would shine at track and field, where he would earn the title “the world’s fastest human” when he ran a 9.2 100 yard dash at the National AAU Championships in 1961.
JORDAN BURROUGHS – ATHLETE – Jordan wrestled for Winslow Township High School and won a state championship for the Eagles. He would receive a scholarship to the University of Nebraska and as a junior at 157 pounds he became an undefeated national champion and would repeat that same feat as a 165 pound senior. He would finish his collegiate career with a 128 win, 20 lose record.
JEFFREY HAMMONDS - ATHLETE – Jeffrey is one of the most successful baseball players and athletes to graduate from Scotch-Plains Fanwood High School. He made All Conference and All County teams in 1987, 88, and 89, and would be named the Gatorade Player of the Year for New Jersey in 1989. He received a scholarship to Stanford University, which he honored, even though drafted right out of high school by the Toronto Blue Jays. Jeff would go onto have a 12 year Major League Career.
THE 1989 HOFFMAN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TEAM – TEAM – One of the smallest high schools in New Jersey at the time captured the inaugural Tournament of Champions for Basketball. The Lady Governors would finish the season with a 35-5 record and the #1 ranked team in the state. The Lady Governors was coached then by future NJSIAA Hall of Fame coach Reggie Carney. This is the first induction of a team to the Bollinger NJSIAA Hall of Fame.
AL SANTORINI – ATHLETE – Al attended Union High School and played under legendary coach, Gordon LeMattey, who labeled Al as his all-time best pitcher. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Al was voted in to the All- Century Team in 2000 and he was a first team All-State performer in 1964, 65,and 66. Al would later go on to have a 10-year Major League career with Atlanta Braves, then the San Diego Padres when MLB expanded in 1969, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
JEFF TORBORG – ATHLETE – Jeff played his high school baseball for Westfield High School and as a catcher he was named to the Star-Ledger All-State First team. He would then go onto play baseball at Rutgers University, where he would varsity letter for 3 years, be named All American catcher and batted .537. He signed his professional contract with the LA Dodgers would play for 10 year with the Dodgers and the LA Angels.
ART STILL – ATHLETE – Art played football all 4 years at Camden High School and would be named by the South Jersey press All-South Jersey team member his junior and senior years. He would also play basketball for 3 years, where he started his junior and senior years and was a major force on the 1974 state Group 3 championship team that went 28-1. He received a football scholarship to the U of Kentucky, was a unanimous AP All-American selection in 1977, and was Southeastern player of the year his senior year. He had a 12-year professional career in the NFL.
GARY WILLIAMS – COACH – Gary played for Collingswood High School and started his sophomore, junior and senior years. He received a scholarship to the University of Maryland as a starting point guard winning the Sugar Bowl T of C in 1965. At the high school level he coached at Woodrow Wilson in Camden from 1969-1972 winning a NJSIAA stating title in 1970 with an undefeated team. His collegiate coaching has taken him from Lafayette, to Boston College, to American U., back to Boston College, to Ohio State and finally from 1989-2011 the University of Maryland, where he played his college ball.
