Avoiding Plagiarism and Citing Sources
- It is not necessary to credit information that is common knowledge.
- You should credit unique ideas, little-known facts, interpretations of facts, and unique wording.
- If you copy in your notes a phrase, sentence, or paragraph from a source, put quotation marks around it.
- When taking notes on someone else’s unique ideas, place brackets around your notes to indicate that the information was taken from a source.
