RESOLUTION 2013-681-A

A RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING BISHOP PERCY J. GOLDEN, SR. FOR HIS RECEIPT OF THE “PASTORS OF EXCELLENCE AWARD” AT THE RHYTHM OF GOSPEL AWARDS SHOW IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, JULY 28, 2013; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.


WHEREAS, the Rhythm of Gospel Awards Show is the 3rd largest independent gospel awards show in the nation; it is an annual event filled with a variety of showcases including choir competitions, pageants and achievement galas; the event attracts 6,500 tourists, church, social and civic groups and families from around the country, Canada and the Bahamas; the event has been held in Jacksonville for the past two years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Percy J. Golden, Sr., an Atlantic Beach, Florida native, is Bishop of the Holy Church of the Living God, Revival Center in Atlantic Beach and is the recipient of the 2013 “Pastors of Excellence Award”; and

WHEREAS, the award recognizes Bishop Golden’s compassionate hands, his exemplifying what it means to be the Good Shepherd, being a community activist and bridge builder and his advocacy for youth development; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Golden is employed by the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department and serves as the department’s Chaplain; he is Chaplain of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 122, and is on the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department Honor Guard and the Fire Department’s Fife and Drum Team; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Golden attended St. Thomas Christian College where he earned a Doctorate of Divinity degree and he is the founder and president of the Beaches First Coast Ministers Association and serves as Vice-president of the Jacksonville Beach Elementary Historical Preservation Board; and

WHEREAS, Bishop Percy J. Golden, Sr.’s life and work epitomize what it means to be the Good Shepherd; he leads by example; he mentors all who are in need of spiritual guidance; it is not at all surprising that the honor of “Pastors of Excellence Award” has been bestowed on this well-respected, greatly admired spiritual leader; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Jacksonville:

Section 1. The City Council does hereby honor and commend Bishop Percy J. Golden, Sr. on the occasion of his receipt of the “Pastors of Excellence Award” and wish him continued success and recognition.

Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon signature by the Mayor or upon becoming effective without the Mayor's signature.
