Professional experience abroad


Visiting Research Fellowship at the Institute of Developing Economies, Chiba, Japan for a period of eight months from May 2006 to January 2007. Wrote a Visiting Research Fellowship Report entitled Gender Discrimination in Education and Economic Development: A Study of Asia as well as two Discussion Papers entitled IT Offshoring and India: Some Implications and IT Clusters in India and three field trip reports.


Visiting Professor at the International Graduate School of Social Sciences, Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan for a period of six months from the 1st October 2003. Duties included teaching a course on the economic development of Japan in comparative perspective to the graduate students enrolled under the Masters Program in English, guiding research scholars and doing collaborative research.


Visiting Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Kanazawa University, Kanazawa from December 1994 to November 1995. Duties included teaching students at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s level and evaluating them. I also conducted research, independently and also jointly with the members of the Faculty. I pursued research on development, education and agriculture-related issues. I published articles on developmental issues, education and on agricultural protectionism.


Foreign Research Scholar at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Tokyo from March 1990 to March 1991 researching on Japanese agriculture in the prewar period. During this period I researched on the agricultural development in pre-World War II Japan and read the records of 1920s written in Japanese.


Research Associate at the International Development Center of Japan, Tokyo from March 1981 to January 1983 researching on Japanese agricultural development. During this period I was exposed to Comparative Analysis issues between Japanese economic development in historical perspective and the present day developing world. I also underwent the course on Japanese economic development which was a part of the course designed for development policy planners from the developing countries conducted at this Center. My main areas of interest during this period were agricultural economics and developmental issues.
