The Atlantic Cup Competition

A LGBT Team Tennis Event

August 5-7, 2011

Philadelphia, PA



OVERVIEW

The Atlantic Cup is a team tennis competition between LGBT tennis groups from Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Teams compete against each other in both singles and doubles, earning points for each match won. The team with the most points wins the competition and becomes holder of the Atlantic Cup.

TEAM PARTICIPATION

There will be 20-24 participants selected for Boston’s team. Participants are encouraged to choose between playing singles or doubles.

DIVISION GUIDELINES


Please see the chart below for description of divisions. It is the sole responsibility of each individual player to enter the division most appropriate for his or her ability. Rule of thumb: when in doubt about which division is most appropriate for you, ask one of the team organizers. Deference will be given to player preferences and GLTA rankings. The team organizers, however, reserve the right to move participants to a different division should player history and additional criteria warrant it.
Open Highly advanced tournament players, NTRP rating of 5.0 and above

A Advanced tournament player, NTRP 4.0 - 4.5

B High intermediate player, NTRP 3.5 - 4.0

C Low intermediate player, NTRP 3.0 - 3.5



SCHEDULE

Match play is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (8/6) and be completed by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday (8/7). In addition to the draw party during the evening on Friday (857), there will be a banquet held on Saturday night (8/6). Please make you travel plans accordingly.




SITES

The Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Center is located 10 minutes from the host hotel.



SURFACE

Hardcourt, both indoor and outdoor.



MATCH FORMAT

All matches will be best 2 out of 3 sets, regular scoring, with 12-point tiebreakers played at 6 games all.

This check will be used to hold your spot on the team and will not be deposited until the team is finalized.
Your cost for playing will be determined after the Boston team is finalized and will depend on the number of matches that you will be playing. All players will play at least two matches and no more than four matches. Your final entry fee will be between $100 and $150.

Participants are expected to pay all costs associated with competing in the Atlantic Cup. To help defray some of these costs, the team organizers encourage participants to share the costs of travel and accommodation.
