When I visited you in class recently I was really pleased to see how well you were working with your Alphasmart to help you with writing and spelling.
At the same time as you are developing your ICT skills you are learning for yourself when it is best to use the computer and when it more sensible to handwrite.
I think that you should now think about how to make even better use of technology to support your learning. Some things to think about:
Managing Files:
Always put a date and/or title at the start of each lesson or file. This makes it easier for you to organise your files. It is also easier for your teacher when she/he is correcting your work.
With a date or title you can more easily search for a file if you have forgotten where you have saved it on your Alphasmart. To do this try the following:
Press Find key-on the menu bar. This brings up a Find box, type in the date or title or a key word eg ‘17.2.06’ or ‘spelling homework’ etc. Then press Enter Or press Option and Enter together and this will search through all 8 files to locate the specific file you want.
When you have transferred your files to the pc for printing it is good to delete them from the Alphasmart. This keeps memory free and again makes it easier to organise files
Editing your work:
Before printing from Word you should try to further improve on your work by reviewing and making corrections eg using the
spell-check or Synonyms or Thesaurus .
To do this-Highlightthe word then Right click to see a list of alternatives eg the word rapid will bring up about 12 choices
Or think about the way you have sequenced events in a piece of writing eg you could select some text by clicking and highlighting and moving it to another place within your story
