PXCSF Spring Meeting Notes 5/1/13
PXCSF Mission Statement

The Pocatello Cross Country Ski Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to promoting and improving Nordic skiing for all levels of experience in Pocatello. We believe that a quality ski experience for novice and expert skiers depends on well maintained trails with excellent grooming. PXCSF assists the City of Pocatello operate Mink Creek Nordic Area with volunteer labor and equipment for trail maintenance and grooming. PXCSF also promotes local skiing through events such as the Potato Cup race, Fun Race Series and fall Trail Runs with volunteer work days. We also support both masters and junior ski programs based on interest.

Corporate Sponsors: Ken Newhouse and Old Town Embroidery have continued their corporate sponsorship of PXCSF. Please sponsor and thank these businesses for their continued generous support.
Current PXCSF Update and Future Goals:

Snowmobile Grant - Bill Woodhouse resubmitted the grant request with Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation which we submitted in January. We raised the member pledge amount to $7500 to reduce the amount of the grant to $15,000 which we hope makes the difference. We’re hoping to hear something back early in the summer.

Upon final payment from the City our Yamaha is no longer ours. The board met tonight to go over some of your options should we receive the grant. If we do not we’ll meet in the fall to go over our options. The dealer Alpina Sherpa dealer should be able to accommodate our purchase.

Financial Update: Heidi Preston FURTHER UPDATE COMING FROM HEIDI

March 2012 $14,873.17

May 2013 $16862.75

+$2500 for the final snowmobile payment not yet received

$19,362.75
I have deposited $955.07 for the Potato Cup and have one more check to deposit. (Included in the balance above)
I have one tax issue that I need to take care of and will get on it. (I need to write a petition to prove we don't owe taxes) at this point the want us to pay $1055.26. I will let you know how I get that cleared up. And what's their response.
Hope that is enough for now. I can get expenses for the year and the other details out to people later. (It will most likely not be to the penny, which I hate but hope we can figure out some way to help with this issue at the meeting).

Grooming Coordinator: Lance Roberts

With Andy Hall's move out of the area Lance Roberts filled the Grooming Coordinator position for the 2012/13 winter season. Lance Roberts coordinated and scheduled seven volunteer groomers to assist the City Parks and Rec (P/R) staff maintain the Mink Creek Nordic ski trails. Volunteers were scheduled to groom Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and also filled in on numerous other days when snow conditions required ski trail grooming. The communication and coordination with Lance Clark and the City P/R staff worked well most of the time; there were a couple time when the snowmobile or ginzu were not operational that where not communicated to the Grooming Coordinator and volunteers. The City P/R staff responded well to request to repair the snowmobile and ginzu; overall communication and coordination was good but there is always room for improvement. The Foundation volunteer groomers are a great asset to helping Mink Creek Nordic Ski Area provide good quality groomed trail skiing; comments from the public users conveyed appreciation for well groomed trails and a quality skiing experience.2013 Groomers: Lance Roberts, Dave Roy, Randy Anderson, Steve Preston, Tim Downey, Tim Safford, Mike K., Bill Skerjenc, Mark Smith (232-3595)

We will schedule a separate meeting for groomers in the fall.
Volunteer Trail Coordinator:

Dave Roy will coordinate the trail volunteer work by PXCSF. Thanks Dave!

Potato Cup Update: Randy Anderson

The day after this year’s race became a turning point for the necessary snow. Some good shoveling ensured that the race was successfully held. We had 32 participants and many volunteers and spectators. Expect next year’s race to be on the same weekend due to the TUNA, Idaho Nordic and TVTAP race schedules. I hope to move the race back to early January at some point. Thanks to everyone that made this year’s race a success.

Wednesday Night Fun Race Series

We held 7 scheduled Fun Races plus a handful more including a New Year’s Day pursuit and Spring Hill Climb. The bar for competition and cuisine continued to rise. We were not limited by lack of snow this season.

Dryland Training

We had several dryland training sessions last fall at Bartz Field. We usually had around 6-7 folks for some great bounding work and everyone went home tired but happy. Look for these to start up again next fall.

Ski Team Update

Any interest?

Website Update

The new website looks great bit it does cost $200 year. I have been told that it’s not difficult to develop a website on Google. If you have a serious interest in developing a new site let me know.
