ROCKETTOTHESKY

`MEDEA´
Medea is the second album from the critically acclaimed
one woman project Rockettothesky, AKA Jenny Hval (Norway). Present Norwegian press agree she’s the most interesting pop artist in the country.

The album is named Medea after the Greek tragedy, and inspired by this, Hval has made a concept album about death as metamorphosis. Through voices, soundscapes and melody, she aims to depict sounds of the dead body, its stories: perhaps folk songs for the dead? Rockettothesky cares little for genre and makes free form Surrealist pop, at the same time gloomy and glowing, absurd and sacred, ethereal and catchy.

Medea is recorded and produced by Jenny Hval herself, and mixed by Helge Sten. The album combines electronic instruments and folk instruments. The acoustic guitar looms in the background: the singer-songwriter appears as a haunting ghost.

As well as Medea, the debut album To Sing You Apple Trees was released to rave reviews (October 2006) and has peaked 10 000 sold copies in Norway.
