STATEMENT
This bill appropriates $3,600,000 from the General Fund for the rehabilitation of the Cape May Seashore Lines. The authorized funds would be made available to rehabilitate a segment of the lines' rail track between mile post 53.3 in Upper Township, County of Cape May and mile post 66.9 in Middle Township, County of Cape May. The rehabilitation work would include, but not be limited to, tie renewal, bolt tightening, washout repairs, tamping, lining and surfacing, highway grade crossing warning devices and safety gates, brush cutting and vegetation control, and structural repairs to the Woodbine Bridge.
At present, the Cape May Seashore Lines operate from Cold Spring Village to Cape May Court House in Cape May County. However, as part of the proposed further restoration of passenger rail service in the southern part of the State, rehabilitating the segment of this lines' rail track northward from Cape May Court House to Tuckahoe is a logical next step. Eventually, continuing the rail lines' rehabilitation to Winslow Township in Camden County would afford an opportunity to connect to the Atlantic City-Philadelphia rail line.
