Silktail Lodge is 200 metres from the Hibiscus Highway and set in a plantation near the homestead. Coconuts, cattle and pigs are farmed.
Devo Beach is about 250 metres from the Lodge. This is good for walking, swimming, snorkelling, wind surfing and fishing.
The coconut plantation has a variety of plants, many of them introduced. A good variety of birds live in this environment while behind the Lodge are native forests which are tracked for birdwatching.
Overall this is a very tranquil and restful setting with a delightful dawn chorus of bird song.

ACTIVITIES -

  1. Bird-watching is a special feature of this resort. The Silktail is readily seen here along with approximately 40 other Fijian bird species. Special birds include the Orange Dove, Red-breasted Musk Parrot, Scarlet Robin, Golden Whistler and Slaty Flycatcher. Our Golden Whistler dawn chorus is memorable.

  2. There are forest walking tracks. As rainforests in Fiji are privately owned it is not normally easy to obtain access and so this Lodge offers a unique opportunity.

  3. Snorkelling opportunities exist off Devo Beach and around the local areas. Flippers, masks and snorkels can be borrowed from the Lodge. Some sort of footwear should be worn to protect feet. Snorkelling is done at low tide.

  4. Beach swimming - Devo beach has an extensive black sand flat for full tide swimming only. This is also secluded for sunbathing.

  5. There are a two secluded river swim holes about 20 minutes walk from bures.

  6. If you just want to relax, there is ample opportunity for this, with the occasional dip in the river swim hole to cool off. There is a small library for your use.

WEATHER CONDITIONS - Temperatures range between 20° and 30° C (68-85F). The ‘wet’ season runs from December to April which is also the cyclone season. Cyclones are rare in this area however. The cooler months are normally June - October. Because this is the wet side of the island it is advisable to be prepared for rain at any time of the year. This is the reason for the beautiful rainforests!
SHOPS - There are no local shops. All shopping is done at Savusavu.
