HVAC


Contestants will be judged on their ability to identify components of an air conditioning system as well as understand the refrigeration cycle to help answer AC performance type questions.




S2

Engine Performance



Contestants will be judged on their ability to identify Engine Performance components. They will retrieve MIL-ON DTC and Engine Control Module related issues. Contestants will be expected to locate factory service information, correctly connect and use test equipment, and use live scan tool PID data to identify root cause. Car is bugged. Parts replacement may be required.

Electrical Diagnosis



Contestants will be judged on their ability to properly diagnose electrical circuits on a fault board related to exterior lighting and motor control. Contestants will be expected to read schematics, correctly connect and use test equipment and use diagnostic strategies to identify root cause.

Job Interview



Contestants will demonstrate they can clearly and completely fill out a job application, communicate clearly and effectively and have appropriate professional behaviors during the job interview process.

Automotive Math



Contestants will demonstrate their knowledge of automotive related math problems, such as Ohm’s law, angles, ratios, etc.

Electrical/Electronic Systems



Contestants will demonstrate their understanding of wiring up a relay controlled circuit, tracing power flow and answering questions related to that circuit.

Electronic Service Information



Contestants will locate specifications and other service information using electronic service information resources.

Steering & Suspension



Contestants will be judged on their ability to identify components of suspension and steering systems, explain proper inspection of these components, identify suspension/steering specialty tools, as well as alignment pull/tire wear questions.




S9

Brake Service & Diagnosis



Contestants will demonstrate their ability to inspect, service and determine necessary action related to disc brake systems. Part and component identification, inspection, measurement, disassembly and assembly may be required.

Manual Drivetrain



Contestants will demonstrate understanding of basic manual transmission service, parts identification, power flow and normal drivetrain inspection.

Automatic Transmission



Contestants will demonstrate understanding of basic automatic transmission service, component identification, basic planetary gear-set operation, and basic transmission slipping/engaging questions.




S12

Engine Mechanical Service



Contestants will demonstrate their knowledge of the internal combustion gasoline engine, as well as use precision measurement instruments and factory specifications to inspect various engine components. Contestants will be required to identify various engine components and answer engine mechanical questions.

Written Test ASE



This 50 question MLR written test will test the student’s technical knowledge of automobile diagnosis and repair in the vehicle system specialty areas of:

Engine Repair

• Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

• Manual Drive Train and Axles

• Suspension and Steering

• Brakes

• Electrical/Electronic Systems

• Heating and Air Conditioning

Test booklet, scrap paper, pencil and response system remotes/clickers.
