Nelson Garner (Dynamic Coaching Director) – Nelson grew up in Burlington, North Carolina where he earned All-State honors in both football and soccer at Williams High School. Nelson kicked for the football team at James Madison University where he was a 4-year starter, team captain, All-Conference Performer, and Blue-Gray All-Star Game participant in 1998. After graduating from JMU, Nelson was invited to NFL training camp with the Baltimore Ravens. Nelson had a successful 8 year pro kicking career that included stops in the NFL, CFL and Arena Football League where he still ranks among the league leaders in career field goal and extra point percentage. Garner has been coaching many of the nation’s best kickers at national camps and through Dynamic Kicking since 2005. He is also a North Carolina state championship winning head soccer coach at Cuthbertson High School. Nelson and his wife Jessica have 2 daughters, Sallie and Margaret. The Garners are active in Church of the Redeemer Presbyterian Church and serve in their school communities with Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Eric Shelton (Dynamic Coaching Director) – Eric grew up in Lexington, Kentucky where he was an All-American football player and track athlete at Bryan Station High School.
Eric amassed 4,970 yards rushing and 59 touchdowns while in high school and won Kentucky 4A Player of the Year in 1999 and again in 2000. Eric started his college career at Florida State, but then transferred to the University of Louisville where he went on to be the school record-setting running back with 20 touchdowns in one season (2004). Eric was drafted in the second round by the Carolina Panthers and played 3 seasons in the NFL before a serious neck injury forced him to leave the game. Eric enjoys coaching the next generation of players and sharing his passion for life and the Lord with kids. Eric and his wife Shamea have a daughter, Imani. The Sheltons are active in Steele Creek Church and serve in the community through the Dynamic Scholarship Mentoring Program.
Mike Stricker (Dynamic Founder/President) – Mike grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was an All-Ohio South soccer player and 3-sport varsity athlete at Greenhills High School. Mike attended the Ohio State University where he developed his love for kicking the football and served extensively with Young Life. After graduating from Ohio State with a degree in Physical Education and Coaching, Mike moved to Charlotte to play with the Charlotte Eagles Soccer Club and also kicked for the NAFL Carolina Cowboys Football Team. Mike averaged 70 yards on kickoffs in the NAFL, which earned him a tryout with the NFL Atlanta Falcons in 2000. Mike taught Physical Education in Charlotte for 5 years and won the Mecklenburg County P.E. Teacher of the Year Award. Stricker founded Dynamic Performance Sports in 2001, after retiring from kicking to train competitive athletes that want to earn college scholarships. A few years later Mike incorporated the Dynamic Scholarship Fund, which enhanced Dynamic’s ability to equip “at-risk community” student-athletes to reach their God-given potential on and off the field. Mike is married to Suzanne and has two children, Jason and Sarah Kate. The Strickers are active at Forest Hill Church and have served with Young Life for over 12 years.

Youth Football Team of the Year Finalists
Cuthbertson 5th Grade Football Team led by Head Coach Sean Maher, had a fantastic inaugural season and represented themselves well on and off the football field. The team was made up of 32 players, with 15 players who had never played competitive football before, and yet they were able to learn fundamentals and win games based on heart and
toughness. The team made its mark on defense by only allowing 24 points against them during the regular season, including 4 shutouts, and then making it to the championship game of their playoff bracket. Coach Maher was super-proud that his team finished strong on the field, but it was the large number of players he had on the A/B Honor roll that made this first season so marvelous.
Steele Creek (Pee Wee Div.) Football Team led by Head Coach, Andre Gilliam completed a 9-0 championship season in the Pop Warner Pee Wee Division. The Seahawks won the 2011 Optimist Bowl 30-0 over the Coulwood Steelers. Steele Creek then advanced to play in the Carolina Bowl in Myrtle Beach against an undefeated team from Columbia, SC. Steele Creek won the Carolina Bowl 30-0. A majority of this team played together last year in the Jr. Pee Wee Division where they were 2010 Optimist Bowl Champions. Coach Gilliam was particularly proud of the Seahawks players for accomplishing great things at school as student-athletes on top of their championship level play on the football field.
Youth Football Team of the Year Finalists
WCWAA Titans (Jr. Pee Wee Div.) Football Team led by Head Coach, Peter Case won every championship that a team in their age division can win including The Optimist Bowl and the Mid-South Regional Championship covering 7 states (NC, SC, Va, WV, Tenn. KY, and AL). The Titans won every game they played convincingly and finished 12-0 with shutout wins over several previously undefeated teams. The Titans had playmakers at every position and were dominant in part because of their commitment to individual and collective preseason speed/skills training that carried over into excellent practices during the season. The Titans only allowed 6 points all year and the offense scored 363 points (and yet the Titans only scored 4 second half TDs all season to keep from running it up on their opponents). Seven different players scored touchdowns and every one of their 27 players played extensively on defense. Coach Case’s Titans team was also recognized for their scholastic achievements in a Team of the Week Award presented by the Carolina Panthers and Pop Warner.
Middle School Football Team & Coach of the Year Finalists
Carmel Middle School Football Team (Brian Poore – Head Coach)
Carmel led by head coach Brian Poore, had a fantastic, undefeated season. The Cougars ended 7-0 and finished the season with impressive shutout wins over their toughest conference competition. Carmel’s wins over Community House, Jay M Robinson and Crestdale highlighted their best season ever, but it was the comeback win over South Charlotte with just seconds remaining that all the players will remember forever. Carmel was led by an outstanding nucleus of players that won the Pop Warner Optimist Bowl together with the South Park Falcons two years ago.
Cuthbertson 7th Grade Football Team (Greg Wilhelm – Head Coach)
Cuthbertson led by head coach Greg Wilhelm, won the ultra-competitive 7th Grade Union County Championship this year. The team finished 9-1, with only a narrow three-point loss to Weddington early in the season. Cuthbertson came back and beat that same Weddington team convincingly in the championship game. Cuthbertson was strong on offense, rock solid on defense, and very sound in the kicking game too. The season was highlighted with exciting wins over very talented Sun Valley, Marvin Ridge, and Holy Trinity teams. Coach Wilhelm continued to urge his Cavs all season to keep giving 1% more and that it would result in a chance to play for that championship, and he was right!
Middle School Football Team & Coach of the Year Finalists
Marvin Ridge 8th Grade Football Team (Bill Curry – Head Coach)
Marvin Ridge led by head coach Bill Curry, completed a dominant 3-year stretch with their third Union County Championship in a row and a 15-game winning streak. The Mavericks went undefeated in 2011. This talented Marvin Ridge team passed for an awe-inspiring 2365 yards and scored 395 points with 31 passing touchdowns and 25 rushing touchdowns. Mallard Creek High School Football Team (Michael Palmieri – Head Coach)
Mallard Creek led by head coach Michael Palmieri had a dominating season that ranked them top 10 in national rankings and the Mavericks were the undisputed number one team in North Carolina for most of the season, before an upset loss to Page High School in the State 4AA Final Four playoff game. Mallard Creek overwhelmed an entire slate of quality teams during the season including wins over 2-time defending champion Butler, Mooresville, Sun Valley, Berry Academy, Ardrey Kell, and Myers Park. Mallard Creek scored 670 points this season and held their opponent to seven points or fewer on seven different occasions.
High School Team & Coach of the Year Finalists

Porter Ridge was extremely diverse in their offensive attack, passing and rushing for over 2000 yards, suffocating on defense all year long, six times holding their opponents to seven or less points, and extraordinary on special teams, with one of the best kicking/punting games in the state. Porter Ridge beat Providence Day, coached by Bruce Hardin (Blair’s dad), and had impressive wins over A.L. Brown, Marvin Ridge, Weddington, Sun Valley, Mount Tabor, and Mooresville.
Providence Day High School Football Team (Bruce Hardin – Head Coach)
Providence Day led by head coach, Bruce Hardin completed a fantastic season that concluded with a NCISAA State Championship. This was the school’s first state title since 1986. Providence Day was a balanced team that had passing games of over 350 yards and rushing games over 250 yards. The Chargers were also exceptional on defense and special teams with a team-first concept and well-coached players at every position. The Chargers finished 11-2 with great wins over Latin, Country Day, and Ravenscroft.
