Star Wars, A Long Time Ago But Not Far Away!
When I was 6 years old I attended school at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. One day, in the middle of class my Mom showed up at my classroom asking me to come with her. I wasn’t sure what to do and looked at my classmates to see their reaction. My teacher encouraged me saying, “Go along with your Mom.”
After leaving the classroom, I asked my Mom, “What’s going on?”
She responded, “Come on. I have a surprise for you.”
We got into the car and drove to a movie theatre. I was curious and asked my Mom why we were here. She just smiled and told me to come along with her into the theatre. I followed along and sat down in the theatre anxiously. What I didn’t know was that my mom decided to surprise me by taking me to a blockbuster movie called “Star Wars.” It was amazing! Outer-space came alive with all kinds of special effects, spaceships battles, light saber fighting, and the struggle between good and evil. I was so excited that I couldn’t sit down.
I was fascinated with the movie and kept asking my Mom, “What did they say? What did they say?” At that time there were no closed captions available for movies, so Mom had to interpret all of the dialogue. I was most mesmerized by the man in a helmet, who wore all black and breathed heavily. I’m 37 years old now and I still love Star Wars. I have the whole set of Star Wars movies, and I will never grow tired of them.
