6th Grade Science Class Syllabus

Ms. Henderson
  

Entering the classroom:

  • Wait to be greeted before entering the classroom.

  • If the classroom door is locked, please line up in a quiet single file until I unlock and open the classroom.

  • Take out needed supplies, sharpen your pencils, and sit in your assigned seat.

  • Begin your bell work immediately and silently.


If you are tardy:

  • You are late if you are not inside the classroom when the bell rings.

  • Go to AP office to receive a tardy pass.

  • Enter very quietly so you don’t interrupt the lesson.

  • Place your pass on my desk and join the class activities.

  • If you need to talk to me, see me after class or at an appropriate time.


If you are absent:

  • Missed work and assignments can be found in the designated area marked MAKE UP WORK.

  • It is your responsibility to get the work and complete any work that you have missed.

  • You have one day for each day you were absent to make up your assignments.

  • If you missed a test, you will take the test the day you return.

  • If you know ahead of time that you will be absent, please let me know, so I can give you the work you will miss.



Grading Guidelines: The following are the district’s approved grading guidelines.
Regular Classes: Pre AP Classes:

35% Major Grades 45% Major Grades

15% 9 Weeks CBA 15% 9 Weeks CBA

50% Daily Grades 40% Daily Grades
If you fall below a 75 in a Pre AP class a letter will be sent home requesting a meeting with you and your parent/guardian.
Listening and speaking:

  • Please raise your hand and wait to be recognized before sharing your comments with the class.

  • Show your classmates courtesy and respect by listening quietly while they are talking.


Working cooperatively:

  • All members of the team/class will work together as a team insuring a positive successful learning environment.

  • Each member of the team/class is responsible for the success of the whole group/class.



What to do if you finish your work early:

  • Always check over your work if you finish early.

  • Then you may read one of the classroom history books or your library book, but please remain quiet.

  • You may not do other work for other classes unless specific permission has been requested AND received.


What to do when you need to use the restroom:

  • Please use the restroom between class periods.

  • You WILL NOT be allowed to go to the restroom during direct instruction.

  • You will not be allowed to go to the restroom during the first 10 or last 10 minutes of class, a school wide rule.


Emergency Evacuation Procedures:

  • Emergency exits are posted by the classroom entrance.

  • Wait for me to give you instructions, do not talk, follow the instructions exactly as they are given.


At the end of class:

  • Before you are dismissed, please make sure the area around your desk is clean.

  • I will dismiss you, not the bell!  

 

KEEP YOUR COPY OF THE CLASSROOM PROCEDURES. THIS WILL BE A PART OF EVERY FOLDER CHECK.

EXPECTATIONS AND CONSEQUENCES
The following rules are considered Level I classroom rules and the consequences are as follows: (Level II rules and above are outlined in the school handbook.)

If I have a substitute in class, you are to follow these rules as if I were in the room. If a note is written by the substitute that describes problems with the class and your name is mentioned, it will be an automatic referral. You can talk it over with the AP.
