FORWARD
The Adolescent Resource Guide was originally compiled for a program called The Game of Life where students experienced real life situations while role- playing. We brought the program to the different high schools in Ocean County and invited many different agencies that provide interventions for these situations to participate. Students were encouraged to access help to solve their “situation” that was given to them and also encouraged to access any help they may need in real life situations. In the planning stages of this program, we found through educators and representatives from social services agencies that there was a real need for a comprehensive listing of these resources.
As we gathered the resources, we were surprised and pleased that there were so many agencies within Ocean County that can offer help to adolescents. When we first put this directory together, under each topic, there was an alphabetical listing of the agencies that addressed that specific issue, its address, telephone number and a listing of the services offered by that agency.
The first time this resource guide was printed was in 1996. Each time we have updated this, we see more and more agencies having their own website, which we include in the Adolescent Resource Guide. This gives the reader the opportunity to go directly to an agency’s website and view all of its services and programs. This 2012 update will give you a very comprehensive list of agencies that respond to the issues listed. The Adolescent Resource Guide will be available on the Ocean County Health Department website at www.ochd.org and will be updated through the website. In order to locate the guide, click on Resources and scroll down to the Adolescent Resource Guide. If you have any additions, corrections, or suggestions, please feel free to call me at 732-341-9700, ext. 7224 or email me at Lterjesen@ochd.org. Thank you for your interest.
