Target 2021 Student Data: Fall 2015

The data contained herein provides an overview of the students being served by the Target 2021 initiative. All data from fall 2015 unless otherwise noted. Data include performance in reading and mathematics, the percentage of students in various support programs, demographic information, and course failure data. These data are provided to better understand and to better serve the students of Target 2021.

Atlanta Public Schools administers the Performance Series computer adaptive assessment in grades 1 through 11. The assessment provides a common measure of reading ability known as a Lexile score. Lexile scores allow educators to gauge whether our students are considered on grade level. Table 1. Illustrates the percentage of students in Target 2021 who were administered the adaptive assessment in 2015.¹

Table 2 provides the percent of Target 2021 students with Lexile scores who are considered on grade level and the percent of students who are behind 1, 2, 3, and 4 or more grade levels in reading.

Table 3 provides this same information by school for the schools where Target 2021 students are currently enrolled.

Table 4 details the number of students receiving various supports in addition to the Target 2021 program.

Students affected by CRCT cheating were almost entirely African American. About 10% were students with disabilities. Due to concerns about identifying individual students, school-level demographics are not publicly available. The table below reports the demographic breakdown of Target 2021 students from spring 2015.

In fall of 2015, there were a total of 14 Target 2021 students categorized as English Language Learners.

Table 7 provides the percent of Target 2021 students who failed at least one course during the 2014-15 school year. The data are displayed for courses within two content areas: 1)English/language arts (ELA) and 2) Mathematics.
