TEAM N.S.--Team Nova Scotia Pep Rally a Success

Nova Scotians gathered at the Emera Oval today, Jan. 25, to celebrate the athletes who will represent the province at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George. B.C.
During the rally, the flag bearers were announced - Jared Goad and Carley Jackson.
"It is an honour being named flag bearer for the closing ceremonies at the Canada Games," said athlete Jared Goad. "I was unexperienced and nervous at my first Games in 2011, but I am here now as a leader with my team as well as with all Team Nova Scotia athletes. I am looking forward to sharing the great experience of the Games with all of them."
Goad is a gold medal contender in trampoline for the upcoming Games. He previously won a gold medal at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in gymnastics. Goad sits on the board of Gymnastics Nova Scotia and is a trampoline and gymnastics coach.
Jackson is a goaltender with the female hockey team who has a string of accomplishments to her credit including participating in the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Under 18 Women’s World Championships. She is headed to the University of Maine to play for the school's female hockey team.
“I am so thrilled and proud to be chosen as the opening ceremonies flag bearer and to represent my province,” add Jackson.
Another highlight of today's rally was the presentation of $20,000 to Team Nova Scotia by the Atlantic Lottery Corporation.
"Atlantic Lottery is known for giving away big cheques and we've enjoyed delivering this big cheque to our Canada Games athletes for many years now," said Allan Sullivan, senior public affairs counsel with Atlantic Lottery. "We support our athletes and know they will represent their province and their sport with pride."
The 2015 Canada Winter Games will take place in Prince George, B.C., from Feb. 13 to March 1, and will host more than 2,400 athletes competing in 19 sports across 17 venues.
Sponsors and partners of Team Nova Scotia include the Government of Nova Scotia, Sport Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation, Atlantic Lottery Corporation and official sponsor, Karbon.
The Canada Games are held every two years, alternating between summer and winter. They are key in developing Canada's young athletes andproducing the next generation of national, international and Olympic champions.
