About this list and other sources of tool information
This is an overview list of tool names and suppliers and a few words describing the tool functionality.
The best source for more detailed information about the tools is Ovum (see below). The Ovum service provides in-depth evaluations against a standard template, and is totally independent of all vendors.
This tool information has been compiled from the following sources:
Contacts and information known to Grove Consultants including brochures from numerous conferences and events.
Any list of this information is always incomplete and out of date. Other sources of information about tools are given below. I have not included all tools from those lists in this one (although there is significant overlap), so if you want a complete picture of software testing tools, you will need to look at these as well:
Testing Tools Supplier List, compiled by Brian Marick, now maintained by Danny Faught: www.rstcorp.com/marick/faqs/tools.htm Note that RST has now changed its name to Cigital.
Software QA/Test Resource Center, compiled and maintained by Rick Hower.
www.softwareqatest.com This site has over 170 web testing tools listed.
Software Testing and Quality Engineering network:
www.stqe.net. There is a discussion group about tools, and a tool search facility (under Tools and Services). The tool list gives tool name, supplier and platform, and contains around 70 tools.
Organisations that place ads in Software Testing and Quality Engineering magazine. These can be accessed online from www.stqemagazine.com – click on the Reader Service Center.
Tool information in this list compiled by Dot Graham, 25 September – 3 October, 2000.
The Vendor table below gives the web site of each vendor mentioned in the Tool tables. If there is a name for the vendor's "family of tools", this is also given in this table, and probably includes all of the individual tools listed for the vendor. If there is no family name, the tool names are given in brackets in the last column.
A list of organisations offered outsourced testing (testing labs) is given in a separate table after the Vendor table.
