2. Richard Barnes was born in about 1811 and was baptized on 6 November 1811 in the Frederiksted Lutheran Mission Church, classified as a free mustice, his mother as a free mustice and the father as free. 14
In 1815, he was living at 45 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, and he had no Freedom Certificate. 15
In 1824, he was living at 45 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, classified as free colored and under the age of 15 years old. 16
He died on 8 March 1826, a free mulatto. 17
The baptismal record indicates “dead,” but no date is given. 18

3. Julianna Barnes was born in about 1815 and was baptized on 17 September 1815 in the Frederiksted Lutheran Mission Church and she was classified as a free mulatto and her mother as a free mustice and her father as a free mulatto. 19
She died on 21 May 1819. 20
4. Isaac Barnes was born in Frederiksted, St. Croix21 on 4 April 1817 and was baptized on 4 May 1817 in the Frederiksted Lutheran Mission Church, classified as a free mulatto, whose both parents were free mulattoes.22
In 1824, he was living at 45 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, where he is listed as a free colored under 15 years old.23
In 1831, he was classified as a mustice, free born, and baptized in the Lutheran Church, and living with his mother, Louisa Shea.24
He was married on 9 September 1838 in the Frederiksted Lutheran Mission Church to Johanna Books,25 who was born in Frederiksted, St. Croix26 in 1818 and was baptized in the Lutheran Church. 27
In 1841, they were living at 45 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, free, married and employed as a Carpenter and a Private in the Fire Corps, and she was employed as a Seamstress. 28
In October 1846, they were living with their children at 45 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, free, married and he was employed as a Joiner and a Private in the Fire Corps. 29
In 1850, they were still living at 45 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, and he was employed as a Joiner and she was supported by her husband.30
In October 1860, they continued to live at his property at 45 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, and he was occupied as a Joiner. 31

She was freed by Samuel Hughue on 16 February 1801, and it was recorded on the 23rd of February in the Christiansted City Court.110 A Freedom Certificate was issued by General Fuller on 1st August 1801. 111

In 1815, he was living at 7a King Street, Frederiksted, aged 29, with no Burgher Certificate and as an invalid not able to serve in the militia.171 He had previously been a Planter, but in 1815, he was without employment.172

4. Maria Smith Barnes was born on St. Croix on 28 June 1792, and baptized in the Anglican Church.
She married, 20 July 1812, George Nelthropp, who was born on 10 July 1785 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In 1824, they were living at 11 Strand Street, Frederiksted. 173
She died on 26 June 1847, aged 51 of consumption and was buried in the Frederiksted Anglican Graveyard.174
He died on 24 September 1869, in Ringsner Vickerage, Sussex, England.
5. Eliza Farrington Barnes was born on 15 August 1793.
She was married in 19 July 1808 in the Anglican Church to William Henry Krause,175 who was born on 14 December 1769.
He died on 7 January 1841.
She died on 7 April 1845, aged 51 years.176
6. John Hendrich/Henry Barnes was born on 17 December 1796, and was baptized in the Danish Lutheran Church, Frederiksted on 22 October 1797.177 [baptized Anglican, 18 Oct. 1796178]
In 1815, he was living at 45 Strand Street, Frederiksted, aged 42, possessing a Burgher Certificate, engaged as a Planter, and a member of the Buff Company of the militia. 179 He was living with his uncle, Thomas Smith. 180
In 1824, he was living at 11 Strand Street, Frederiksted with his sister, Maria Smith Barnes and her husband, George Nelthropp.181
He had a relationship beginning in about 1821-2 with Jane Elizabeth Veeder, who was born on St. Croix in about 1800,182 and was baptized in St. John's Anglican Church, Christiansted, on 19 June 1800.
She was listed in official records as a mulatto.183
In 1824, she was living at 43-44 Queens Street, Frederiksted with her two children.184
In October 1846, he was living with his sister, Maria Smith Barnes, married, Nelthropp, and her husband, and his children at estate Mount Washington, Northside A Quarter, unmarried, and exempted from the militia. 185
In October 1847, he was living at estate Rose Hill (Northside A, nos. 16/17), unmarried and employed as a Planter.186
On 2 January 1848, she was married in Christiansted to Martin Luther Daguilard.187
A John Barnes, aged 46, a member of the Anglican Church, died of fever and was buried in the Anglican graveyard on 23 July 1848.188 He was listed as formerly a planter, and unmarried.189
She died on St. Croix on 18 September 1848.190

On 15 June 1832, he purchased at auction with his brother Richard Foster Barnes, the estate Jealousy (Prince’s Quarter 16 & 17).
On 5 July 1834, he received a Burgher Certificate, as a Planter born on St. Croix.196
He was married to Adelaide Augusta, who was born on St. Croix in about 1809 and was baptized in the Anglican Church. 197
In October 1841, they and their children were living at estate Jealousy (Prince’s Quarter), owner of estate Jealousy and Manager and a Lieutenant in the Prince’s Life Squadron.198
On 22 March 1844, estate Jealousy (Prince’s Quarter 16 & 17) was sold at auction to George Nelthropp [his half brother-in-law].
In October 1846, he was living with his wife and children at estate Jealousy (Prince’ Quarter), as Manager [the estate was owned by George Nelthropp], and he was a Lieutenant in the Prince’s Life Squadron.199

He took the oath of allegiance on 17 October 1833, being born on St. Croix and a occupied as a Planter.204

On 22 March 1844, estate Jealousy (Prince’s Quarter 16 & 17) was sold at auction to George Nelthropp [his half brother-in-law].
In October 1847, he was living with his wife and children at estate Rose Hill (Northside A Quarter, 16/17), married, employed as a Planter and a Sergeant in the Prince’s Life Squadron, and she was the Proprietor of the estate. 206
He died in 1860 in New Orleans.

10. Sidney Smith Barnes, born on St. Croix207 in about 1822, and was baptized on 7 July 1822 in the Frederiksted Anglican208 Church.209 She was officially designated as a castice. 210
In 1824, she was living at 43-44 Queens Street, Frederiksted with her mother and sister.211
In 1831, she was listed in the Christiansted Free Colored Census, as a child, living in Christiansted. 212
She died about 5 April 1848.213

Her mother’s will with M. L. Daguilard, makes clear that Anna R. Barnes was her child with John Barnes.215
She died after 5 April 1848.
