Dined at fathers and went to ninth St. for some things and landed up at Dr. Bull’s private hospital at 931 p.m. 33E 33 St. Where I expect to spend the next two weeks. Dr. Pool came around about 1030 and prepared me for the operation for hernia tomorrow.

Thursday, May 31, 1906- I have Room No 4. An uncomfortable hole in the wall- About big enough for a bed, chair, table and bureau- Didn’t sleep much last night- Willie and father came around about 930. I didn’t eat anything: expecting the operation at 1030 a.m. About 11 a.m. Dr. Bull telephoned he was detained- about 1230 he arrive- Went up to the operating room. Only to be told he would start at 230 p.m. - At 2 p.m. again postponed. Gee! It’s like waiting for ones execution. 430 p.m. Now the hour. Willie and father went home to lunch (35 St: they are staying there to be near). Finally at five o’clock everything is ready. I go up in the lift to the operating room. Disrobe. Take my place on the table (so called) and- Then a blank.

Friday, June 1, 1906- When I came it was 7 p.m. I was in room 39 the 4 floor back- didn’t realize much last night- But under Willies admonition on coming out of the ether, in a half unconscious drunken state kept repeating “Mrs. Hougtaling told me not to swear!” The first night after an operation is never a comfortable or pleasant one. Last night was no exception to the rule. Today one of pain.

Consequently now 28. Her home is Talapouhsa, Ga. She is a good nurse. My day nurse is Miss Little a Canadian. “Man wants but “little” here below. Nor wants that “little long” state but true!”
