What’ Going On In the Building?

Our Motto: Excellence, Honor and Service
8TH Grade PE Students are not being punished: Parents, if you recall in the last LOV Notes (24th edition), I mentioned some restructuring that was needed in the 8th grade PE classes in order to promote safety and to regroup for the Spring. This was never a permanent thing – only temporary. The students have not been in the same setting and have experienced more structure for the past 2 weeks. It is a change and some have recently expressed concerns to parents. I have recently received a few parental responses “not so nice” about this plan. The students will resume normal activities this week but we will model and practice expectations with them and review things carefully with them so that there are no miscommunications. PE classes are very large and I will not jeopardize safety, even if it means taking a few steps back and starting over. Students will be provided more options and differentiated opportunities for engagement. I am fully aware that this is always the way to go when needing structure. It was never my intention to communicate “punishment for all.” Again, please speak with your child about his/her accountability and expectation to follow the rules while in PE classes.

Parking Lot Committee: We are still soliciting help with the parking lot. Parents if you are interested in assisting us in gaining more order and structure to the parking lot during car rider times, and you wish to donate your time, please email Chalon.mccauley@cobbk12.org and submit your name and availability time. The first step will be a brief meeting and we will pull it together once we gather enough volunteers. Thanks for your support.

What Parents Need to Know

Olympics at Lovinggood this year: For each grade level (May 14th thru 16th), we will have outdoor activities (Field Days). Please be sure to purchase the needed T-Shirt for your child. T-Shirt orders due April 5th.
PLEASE SEND THE T-SHIRT PAYMENTS AND THE $1.00 FOR END OF YEAR ENVELOPE BY THIS FRIDAY AT THE SAME TIME AND THIS WOULD BE MORE CONVENIENT FOR YOU.
End of Year Envelopes for Report Cards: Now that the end of the school year is drawing near, please make an effort to send in1 dollar for end of the year envelope and postage. We will need to send several things home and this could be one less thing for you to have to worry about towards the end of the year. Label the payment EOY Envelope. Thanks.
Atlanta Braves Student Achiever Program presented by Chick-Fil-A: Student achievement is honored and reinforced as Chick-Fil-A (Our Partners in Education), are offering an opportunity for students to be chosen to participate in a special pre-game presentation in the month of August. Students are eligible to participate if they have Straight A’s, are on the A/B Honor Roll and have perfect attendance. The students can register to participate at braves.com/achiever. The unique school password is GCAXMSYG. Please encourage your honor roll scholar to participate in this opportunity.

Are you interested in being a PTA officer for the 2013-2014 school year?

Please email a member of the nominating committee by Thursday, April  4, 2013.

Be sure to have students review for the next few weeks but also, give them time to relax on the break. We are here now and it’s time to test. Let’s balance time to avoid anxiety. They need positive talk and encouragement at this point.
