Who can purchase Federal Reserve Bank Capital Stock?
National banks and state banks that are members of the Federal
Reserve System may purchase stock.
How much stock can eligible institutions purchase?
Those banks eligible to purchase capital stock must hold an amount equal to
six percent of their capital and surplus.
How much does the stock cost?
Federal Reserve Bank stock has a par value of $100 per share; however,
banks are only required to pay $50 per share when they make a purchase.
The remaining half is subject to call when deemed necessary by the Board
of Governors.
Do banks earn dividends on their Federal Reserve Bank stock?
Dividends are paid two times each year on June 30th and December 31st.
The current dividend rate is 6% per year.
